Muttley and tinys bridge

Good evening guys.
Over the past week Tiny and I have been waiting on some stock for the 251 we think it must be coming via the scenic route.
So we decided to make a start on the bridge.
For these of you that have purchased the latest release of the baily bridge will know the parts are well bagged and and very well oiled.
Today was spent on degreaceing the parts for spans and washing everything off drying and now ready to start undercoating the first of the parts.
A job for tomorrow.

Hi All
Lovely to see such loving cleaning, its all worthwhile.

My top tip is to top coat everything before assembly. Why, I didn't, and thus I have to keep an eye on the wear & tear. However so far so good, if a little faded, nice patina

I have a 3 span and so far have only done a parts check, crikey, are you right about the oil I am looking forward to seeing your bridge as it progresses. I need to get more done on the Churchill before starting on the bridge but may start the cleaning process using a general degreaser followed by a Upol secondary clean and a liberal coating of primer on each part.

Not to much done today when we opened up the bag for part ENO 104 we found lots of rust on prity much all the parts no big deal 15 minutes in rust inhibitor a quick wipe dry sorted.

I will let you know about the wood I think it is going to be cheaper for me to buy it than process my tree trunk as its way to big and I rearly require a thicknesser plainer £4-500 for a good hobby one cheaper to see my local timber mill.

Have to clean all the parts to ensure a nice clean oil free surface for a good paint adhesion.

Thank you for the lovely comments I am still waiting for stock I orderd a cupel of weeks ago so until it arrives its no with the bridge muck to tinys pleasure.

Hi Steve, Keep us informed on the products you are using to de-grease and clean. I have son, Alex (you met him,keen to get stuck in on a kit) booked to help with the bridge. Looking forward to it. Keep busy.

Evapo-Rust is probably the best rust-to-bare-metal product I've used.

Hammerite Gel Rust Remover is handy for non-flat surfaces as it sticks well.

I use Upol System 20 fast drying solvent based panel wipe for the final clean before primer.

Just a small update today Tiny and I got all the parts undercoated for the first four side rails.
I did make/ dryfit one rail to see how it went together and made a big opps more about on my next update.

Hi guys
Not to much done today I corrected my little opps I made yesterday.
When putting the panels together it looks as though they can be put together anyway round not the case the photos show it better.
The holes at the bottom are for part 116 if one half is the wrong way round part 116 won't fit a very easy mistake to make pain to put right.
John here is a photo of the degreaser I use also I spent a lot of time researching the colour for the bridge.
The English bridge was issued in SCC2 drab brown and the American bridge was painted green.

Good evening guys.
Just a small update today.
One panel is now fully assembled glued and screwed as we would say just have to touch up the undercoat now on the bear metal of the fixings.
For any new members of the forum or any one not too sure on building the panels it's not to clear in the picture part 107 is shown fitted to the top of the panel only it is also fitted to the bottom as can be seen in one of the photos.
For anyone interested in the paint i mentioned in my last post I have found a supplier.

Rattle can is £17.45
I also ordered thinners to knock the tin down for the sprayer and best of all for you guys in England its post free.

Hi Steve and Tiny.
You may recall I advised top coating everything prior to assembly.

I see you are at the point I realised my small error.

You may find after first coat a fine airbrush is required to get into the nooks and crannies.

That said I do like this kit and keep up the good work. I agree too it can be fiddly .

Just looked at your photos and I interpret the manual as the screws being inserted opposite to how you have done it.
