Given the current market value of rusted hulks, I can really believe that there would be a market for nice comfortable Tiger I copies.

They've done it for Luftwaffe planes, why not tanks ?

But wouldn't that be fun to have! Sounds like its a "testing the possible market" announcement to see what kind of interest they receive.

I think the initial interest would be quite high but then they would quote a price and see the interest fall. The people who buy rusting hulks are after the original not a copy .Who says it would be 100% acccurate

Remember how much is picked up on a 1/6th tank and changed never mind a 1/1 copy

I think you are right Antony. How many people have the financial means of buying a toy of at least a couple of million Euro's! Not to forget the 50 ton transporter you need and a proving ground to run it. If the fake Tiger1 will be as acurate as his english I know enough ha ha ha!

Why cant it be true? Im sure people would buy them. Not many, but depending upon the price I'll bet they could sell a few. They sold ME-262 copies in Washington state for $1,000,000 each.
The US Army's Tiger tank that is in England, the deal with that was it was to be restored and at the same time Sir Wheatcroft was to build 5 clones, 4 for the movie industry and 1 for the US Army.

Well alI hope that it is true ofcourse! It would be fantastic but at the same I am very sceptic about it. You mentioned the Aberdeen Tiger1. That's a whole different story surrounded by myths! What happened there? Does anybody know if it still is in Mr. Wheatcroft's possession? Are there any photo's? Is he really building 5 replica's? You need a factory and many craftsmen for that I suppose.

I'm not sure if anything will come of this, as has been said the English is really bad which isn't very professional. I think it could work if someone was to set up to make a small number for select customers, like the ME 262 project. It sounds like these will be ok from the outside but nothing like the original from the inside so their value would be debateable.

I wold like to see the Bovington Tiger do some shows during the year - why not W&P at least? After all it was restored with our money.

Hi Matt,
I dont have all the answers, but I do have some.
Awhile back there was a story that the Galaxy that went down last summer at Dover AFB was to carry the Tiger back to Delaware. I scoffed at that, thinking they dont schedual aircraft that way. After talking with friends at Dover they confirmed this, stating Galaxy drivers are nothing more that glorified truck drivers. When there is a load they grab an aircraft and ship it.
Well after digging a little deeper I found in this instance that would not be true. In fact that plane was assighnened to carry that load.
The facts as I know them are, The Army is not sure where the Tiger is to be housed, because of the ongoing Base Realignment here in the US. This is a major factor in this issue.
Then there is required, an Ordnance Export License from the UK, a Weapons Import Licence from DoT (US),a Dangerous Item Import Permit from the State Dept, and I,m told about 40 other licences, permits, and exemtions.
To get these they have to specify a specific truck, plane, or ship. Also pilot, captain, first mate, driver and codriver. Used in the transportation.
Failing to meet any single data entry voids the entire document, and one failed document stops the entire mission.
The Dangerous Item Permit alone I,m told takes 18 months.
So when the C-5 went down the whole process was sent back to the start.
I dont know anything about the condition of the tank or any children it may have had while away, only that the meuseum told me several years ago about that being part of the deal.

Thank for your interesting info! So if I understand you correct it will be allmost impossble to get it back to the US. Still leaves the question where the Aberdeen Tiger1 now is and why the whole matter is so secret. I and others find it very strange that nobody seems to know where the d*mm thing is! Don't we have any privat investigators among the Armortek owners in GB? It would be great to know where it is now located.

I posted a summary regarding the status of the US Army's Tiger I tank and the plans to return it to the USA. This will clear up some of the misinformation or confusion that has been circulating about that Tiger I, and it may help to head things off before people begin to postulate conspiracy theories.

This is under the Armortek Forum Tiger I section. And if for no other reason than this, the post gives Tiger I fans who visit the Forum Tiger I section reason to hope the Tigers are not forgot.

PS: I personally choose to believe Mr. Wheatcroft has been secretly restoring the Tiger I for use by '007' as his new vehicle in the coming James Bond film

The Tiger 1, in the new Bond movie is certainly from the UK, but not from Kevin
