Recoil unit

Post by Martin Donnison »

Hi Guys, I have fitted the nylon bushes party number CV0423 into part number CV0422. I understand that the barrel slides forwards and backwards inside the nylon bushes. My question is do I need to loctite CV0422 into CV0416.

Thanks Martin.

Hi Martin, been thinking about that as well. I don't see anything on the drawings that explains how to secure the part. Not sure Locktite would be man enough to hold it secure for long with some use. I've been thinking of making a collar to go around the part that sticks out at the back and securing it with screws, maybe locktite as well.

Hi Steve, I was thinking about drilling and taping a hole under the cloth and fitting a grub screw to lock the two parts together.

I know some of the high strength loctites would work.

Let me know how you get on.

There are 4 tap holes on the back of CV0416 for locking of Recoil Module later on. IMHO a collar at the same area could have compromised the adding.

Maybe screwing of CV0416 & 0422 from either top or bottom is the way. Just my thought....

I am not there myself but I would probably glue it in with Loctite 638 and at worst, get some spare parts from Armortek ...

My recoil system will arrive next week.

Cheers, Andre

Normally this part gets sandwiched in by something. The mantlet and the breach in the JT's case.

Hi Andre, I just need confirmation that I can glue it in place without causing myself a world of pain. I glued up some of the screws on my drives and it is almost impossible to reverse it once glued.

Just need a brave sole to do it first. 😅

Hi Martin - as discussed when you were over:
- the delrin collars should be loctited in place.
- the barrel is machined to be a tight fit to prevent any wobble but when fitting the recoil unit you need to make sure that the barrel slides smoothly through the collars. This may mean that you need use some 240 grit (of there abouts) emery paper around the rear of the barrel.
- once done, lubricate with a silicone lubricant

I strongly advise against using grubs to hold the collars in place. As you tighten the grubs they will compress the collars and the barrel will no longer clear.

Thank you Kian for clearing that up. Out with the loctite for me than. Fitted the nylon bushes with no major drama.

Thank you.

Hi Kian, The question I was asking was not about the delrim bushes but the part of the barrel sleeve that sits inside the mantlet and should stay in place when the gun is fired. Do we just locktite it in place or do we need to do anything else to secure it such as a grub screw through the mantlet into the tube away from the location of the bushed area of the barrel. This shouldn't affect the fit of the barrel as it only secures the 2 pieces together without actually drilling in to the tube itself and would not distort the tube in any way it would simply lock the 2 parts together Or would locktite be strong enough for repeated firing on it's own?
Hopefully this makes sense.

Hi Martin.

Bit the bullet today and fixed the sleeve to the mantlet. Drilled a 4.2mm hole down through the mantlet, tapped it to take a 5mm grub screw. aligned it all up and wound in the grubscrew to get a witness mark then drilled a dimple in the sleeve for location. I locktited the sleeve with 480 and then locked it all off with the grub screw. I drilled the hole for the grub screw so that it was half way between the 2 delrim bushes so no added distortion to the bushes. All locked rock solid now and not visible when the top is on.

Hi guys,
I have fixed the nylon bushes in the barrel and glued the barrel into the mantlet with loctite. Left it for two days.
Fitted the recoil unit. I fitted the micro switches but when I toggle my three position switch it fires and slowly retracts. But if I leave the switch in the forward position it repeats the firing repeatedly until I turn it off. Is this normal.

I would have expected to toggle three times and the main gun fires and returns. Do I simply fire and switch off.

Thanks Martin.

Yes Marti,
If you leave the stick forward it will keep firing. If you only want one shot, return the stick to the middle, but also this works with all the sounds with exception of the engine, which will keep going until you push the stick backward and forward to shut the engine sound. Always good practice to return the switch to the centre position after the sound you want to make otherwise it can get confusing as to what sounds you end up getting.
Glad to got the barrel sleeve sorted.
Made a bit more of a start on mine today now the health is a bit better.
Made up a cable drum for the rear and cut out the door in the back of the rear bin, just the hinges and securing latches to make tomorrow. Hoping to get some paint on the turret while we have the weather.
Onwards & upwards.
Steve

You toggle one way to select the sound you want and the other way to activate that sound.

So three centre - up - centre toggles selects main gun fire, and one centre - down - centre toggle plays that sound.
