- LATE TIGER 1 BUILD -

Hi all,

So I picked up a 2021 late model tiger through a member of this forum. This is the first model of this magnitude which I have ever undertaken, and honestly after going through all the boxes... scares the s@#t out of me! ( but baby steps )

I have a humble 20 ft sea container which will become "The Panzer Factory" for this build. I anticipate this build to be quite slow, as I have to find time between work, raising 4 kids and every other stress in life.

Anyway, you don't get anywhere without first taking the first step so here it goes...

I started by chamfering the floor mounting holes. I have seen this done in afew other threads, and is definitely a nice modification. However, once I assembled the hull, I realised I forgot to chamfer the holes at either end of the panel. Rookie oversight, but nonetheless they came up really nicely.

Hi Thomas

Good to see another late Tiger under construction, I learnt a lot building my 2021 Tiger ( Number 13 ) and it was definitely quite daunting as it was also my first foray into armoured vehicles. Take your time and enjoy the build.

Regards
Gary
Hope this give you some inspiration

Looks like a perfect space to work. I started my first Late Tiger in a 6x8 box room that was already full with the rest of my model collections. Post lots of pictures please.

Thanks for the inspiration guys.

I just thought I would showcase my work area. I come out here only at night for afew hours.

You wouldn't believe it but I also have a question this early into the build. I'm trying to assemble the front glacias plate and have been through all my reference photos but can't quite work out where the machine gun barrel sits in the ball?
Refer to pics if anyone has any insight? Is that groove at the base of the barrel visible or not? Sorry for such a noob question so early on but I feel there will be many :?

Hi Thomas,

As a reference the scope aperture will always be on the left side of the MG on the ball mount.

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

I think maybe you misunderstood my question? The barrell sits in a hole in the ball. I'm just trying to work out how far it sticks out from that hole and then I will loctite it in place...

Cheers,
Tom

The kit MG is very far off from the original, so its really not possible to answer your question. I suggest you leave it loose in the ball, so that you can easily replace it when you find something better.

Hi Thomas,

Yes, I did misunderstand your question. My current calculation for your question is 2.042 inches. That's measured from the end of the barrel to the outer diameter of the ball (not the full exposed barrel length). I'm not super happy with my number, especially since I was in Munster not to long ago. It would really be helpful if one of the outstanding and generous forum members in England (who are close to Bovington) could take a tape measure to the real thing on Tiger 131.

Regards,

Carlos
