Custom Panther G build

Custom build of a 1:6 scale Panther G for one of our customers.

The brief was to model the tank on the Panther G 332 at The Musée des Blindes in Saumur, France - but with toned down and weathered camo.

The photos below show the zimmerit having just been added in a fairly standard pattern. Next stage is to sand down some of the high points and then start building up the colour layers.

That looks really good. What are you using for the goop (paste)?

We have had quite a few queries about the "goop" as Bob calls it, as well as for the tool to make the pattern.

The goop, or paste, that we use is tile adhesive powder mixed with PVA glue. Some paint is added into the mixture so that if the Zimmerit gets chipped over time you are not left with a glaring white spot that needs fixing.

The Zimmerit Tool used is as shown below.

If you would like to purchase the Zimmerit tool set (the two tools as shown below), the price is £16 plus shipping and VAT where applicable.
The tools are made from 0.5mm stainless steel. The serrations are uneven to give the appearance of uneven zimmerit application.
We shall be ordering the tools for the end of November, so if you would like to place an order, let us know.

Thanks AT, that zimmerit looks really good and doesn't take weeks to apply! Great tip for Panther builders!

It's actually tile grout not adhesive....

All the original formulations of Zimmerit I’ve read about had PVA (PVAc polyvinyl acetate or “white glue” here in the States) and something like plaster or the tile grout mentioned with ochre color mixed in. The one glaring difference is the original zimmerit used benzene as a solvent- something that won’t fly today. I like this formula Armortek has used; I was hoping to do something similar even though up to now I’ve avoided doing zimmerit as much as Covid…

A bit of progress - the mudguards and tooling bracketry have been added and the colour layers are being built up.

Armortek I was wondering if you have a general ratio of tile mix to glue you use. As having never tried, I was looking for a starting point.

Thanks,
Mark
