75mm Rifling Plug
Did anyone do a plug or insert to simulate Rifling for the 75mm Canon? If so, I’d love to obtain one, or find technical info to see if I could have one (Some) made?
Respectfully,
Jack

Re: 75mm Rifling Plug
Doesn't FoA offer 75mm simulated rifling sheets? Not sure if they are still active or not. I've had a small order in with them for a while and haven't heard a peep...
I had considered making a 'rifling button' to cut shallow grooves but I've gone lazy and have not done it.

Re: 75mm Rifling Plug
If I could find dimensions of that Rifling, I’d see about making some. By dimensions, things such as depth, or height of the lands and grooves, also number or pitch. Circumference of opening and such….right hand twist (I’m assuming) etc.

Re: 75mm Rifling Plug
This might be a stretch but somehow as long as the number of grooves is 'close' I doubt many observers would check the dept/height of the lands and grooves or that the rate of twist was correct for a particular gun tube... either that or rivet counting has been elevated to more of a science than I realized!Jack Hrovatin wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 9:16 pmIf I could find dimensions of that Rifling, I’d see about making some. Re: 75mm Rifling Plug
hello.
looking at some sources seems there were 32 grooves for the KWK 42 (panther 1944.de)
As for pitch, had not found anything yet, just hoping ist's not the same as some other german guns with variable pitch along the barrel.
as for depth / diameter, if you can find a precise drawing of a shell with the soft steel rotating bands, you will have everything ,as main body of the shell can be considered as minimum diameter, and outer diameter of the rotating band as the max diameter at groove feet.
found 2 versions, with more or less complex rotating band shape.
again, may be not precise to the mm in real, but good enough at 1/6 !
Basically, the shells for kwk 42 were the same than for other german 7.5cm tank gun, except having 2 rotating bands rather than one.
And as for the recoil length it is said to be in between 400 to 430mm. (panther 1944.de again)

Re: 75mm Rifling Plug
Now I can see why you don't want to do business with them. I have a small outstanding order with them, for a few weeks and no acknowledgement or any discernible movement on their end at all. Waste of time and resources. I should have heeded the warnings...Jack Hrovatin wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 9:12 pmJerry,
I don’t like doing business with them….too many issues, none good!
