Came across this relating to captured carriers
During the Campaign in north Africa the parties used each other Equipment that was left in the battle fields . In the pix is a German booklet explains how to use A Bren carrier and a radio. Printed in Berlin 1/3/41

Today I bench tested the electronics and found out my JR radio works with Armortek components.
I tested the motors and the sprocket brakes and everything is working well.

Eureka! I got the carrier running almost perfect (still might need to tighten the tracks)
Earlier I had put it together and test drove it but I couldn’t get it to turn. I tore down the axle and discovered I put the brake discs in backward. I had assumed the screw heads on the brakes were supposed to drag on the inside of the drum but I didn’t check the instructions close enough it’s clearly shown that the disc screw heads face in TOWARD the brake shoe. This configuration catches the brakes quite violently and definitely turns the whole carrier on a dime.
Here is a long video putting the carrier back together and the first successful test drive.

Love the vids, first time I've seen the rear axle internals exposed in a clip.
I'm not a fan of the "jaming peg type" control, liked the idea Phil developed with the pads, but milling is required and I still think there's mileage in the possibility of removing the pegs and fitting a friction to the disk. You've proved to me there's space to fit a friction disk and apparently slitting disks could be trimmed to act as the friction plate. (Punching out the center hole) I'm not sure what or if the original brake pad material pad would need to change. But may need experimentation but at least you don't need to strip the axle down to replace the pads

the rear bogies were bottomed out so I added preload spacers to the inner springs of the rear bogies to lift the rear end up a couple of millimeters.
