Tiger 1 range target refurbish ......again.

Not sure if you guys want to see this refurbished but it may be interesting to some.

As the hulk has been out in all weather's for the last few years it's once again time for some new parts. I want to keep the battle damage ie the penetrations as they are and finish the build with an ultra high level of weathering.

The suspension has suffered real bad, the steel parts have been corroded by rain and the pyrotechnic residue with most of the fasteners just about disappeared. So the blow lamp and mallet have been employed.

My plan is to make a runner of the old girl, I want to be able to use it as a "tug" to pull other hulks about and recover any breakdowns I have.

I like it. 8)
Looks very authentic, pretty much how all the German armor looked on the battle field 1945.
Maybe change the domed nut magneto's or what ever they are.
You'll have it running by the weekend I'm sure.

I've just bought one in (slightly) better condition than that

I'm awaiting some prices from Monique but may have some of the spares you are after (hull floor, idler shafts, final drive housings).

It does look very like the poor Sherman prototype I bought from Gill after they left it on the hill at Dunkeswell for a year:

They do clean up remarkably well though:

I agree it's amazing and very satisfying just how well the parts clean up with a little elbow grease, and that pitting when painted can look the part also!
Those parts would be great, please keep me posted although Simon has found me a pair of final drive cases, another pair would be good for an even rougher hulk that I have. The hull floor and idlers also.
I remember that sherman!
Would you happen to have an early drive motor? I do have one, can't remember where it came from.

Regards Phil.

It will be like restoring the Lenino Snegiri tiger to running condition...

A quick but maybe an interesting update on the refurbishment of the old range target, I think I'm going rebuild as the bergetiger. If anybody has any drawings that might help that would great? 8)

That would be nice change 8)
But I thought this Tiger was a make shift bomb carrier during the Italian campaign. Bridge demolition?
A sort of poor man's Churchill AVRE.
It was a bit of an enigma and I could be wrong

What a brilliant concept by the Waffenamt - use an unreliable vehicle to recover/repair an unreliable vehicle. What could go wrong? Would make a unique model though Phil.

The new replacement hard target Tiger is moving on. She will soon be ready for the rocket projectile impact filming, I will also film a stored ammunition cook off scenario, should be interesting! I like those as all hell breaks loose, some 40 pyrotechnic effects all contained in that hulk in around 20 seconds.
Doing what I do it's nice to have such a model that I can destroy or at least extensively damage but not have to sorry to much about, it can always be rebuilt!
Any joy with those parts you offered Adrian? I'm ready to start on the bergetiger but need a early belly plate, any chance Armortek could help?

Great news on the Churchill.

One question Phil :
In the last photo, how was the C-hook locked on the back panel? Looks like only two screws locked through the C-hook itself.
From the assembly instruction, two clamps and four M3 x 25mm screws and nuts were used.

With regards,
Lerh Chang

Hi Chang, your quite right but this is a target so I've just bolted right through, I've also bolted the rear fenders which are now fixed in the down position. 8)

The new range target is having its top coat of paint and will soon be heading off to the range, it sure is rough! 8)
