Early Armotek PKW IV.
Evening all.
About this time last year we(by that I mean I did), buy Kevin Tomkinson's Panzer IV. I bought it so as to have a running model for us(son as well) to learn about running an AT tank. In the future, at some point, this project will be upgraded/detailed further.
Today was too nice to be in the workshop and as we aren't allowed out of the country, we followed the Denmark team's lead and did our own meet, in the garden, just the two of us and one tank.
Enjoy
Charles
PS We are learning all the time, many thanks Forum.

Nice!
Thanks for making this movie for us!
It looks like the panther has Vincent's tracks. Can you share the secret of how you made them work? Widening the sprocket by x and, and, and?

Evening all.
I thought to add another building to our running area, a barn, not complete, but well on the way now spring is sprung (and it stopped raining). Brought the PKW IV out for a post winter run, no problems but will give it a more detailed look over soon.
All made from pallets and off cuts.
have a good weekend.

Hi Folks.
When I said in the last post,"Brought the PKW IV out for a post winter run, no problems but will give it a more detailed look over soon."
Well I shouldn't have, sod's law struck. After a lovely couple of hours running round the track yesterday afternoon, accompanied by the MK1 Panther.
We lost the final drive : on one side.
I should just point out we were driving on a firm clay surface when the failure occurred.
Once the drive cover was removed the problem was easily found, bust grub screw!!
Given the model is 22 years I feel time has taken its toll. I have cleaned up the hole and a new grub screw fits fine.
The however's:-
1/ Just replace the grub screw and carry on.
2/ Pop a bit of weld in the hole.
I am open to suggestions and of course I will check/ modify the other side while the tracks are off.
Take care.

Hi Charles,
great pictures.
Do you have a construction plan for the barn that you would care to share with the community ?

If it were me, as it's stripped down already, I'd drop Armortek a message and buy a pair of new one-piece drive gears.

Re: Early Armotek PKW IV.
Hi Again.
Adrian, a sensible suggestion. Once I have stripped down the other side and can see what state is in. The other option here:-
Anybody got a couple to sell!!!
Mark, thank you, the barn was constructed on a whim, old pallets(denailed), planks cut to 4mm, an inch/25mm in 1/6th. Beams 16mm+ to suit etc. No plan really. We did lob 6"/150mm off the original as it looked too high proportionally, this all allows for regional variations.
Any further info, just ask.
Cheers
Charles
PS A table saw is most useful for these projects, mind you fingers
