Phil sent me the Panther which is way bigger than the p3 and it was around $800 us. Armortek also crates and ships from the factory. The biggest surprise to me about AT crates were the huge size particularly of the jagdtiger, it appeared to be shipped completely whole with the barrel mounted!

I contacted a number of shipping companies today and so far the lowest quote was from the company that Simon suggested.
However, that quote was £1200 plus vat for a 14day sea shipment and there is obviously US tax to pay as well.

Waiting to here from another company but this is not looking good.
They claim that Covid and Brexit are to blame for less available freight traffic and a lot more paperwork.

Al in all very frustrating.

I know, i orderd a 2 elevation motors from armortek and pay a 54 euro extra tax on a here in Belgium because England is not
in the Europe anymore.
Can you imagine what i have to pay on tax when i order a new Armortek panzer

Hi Tim

First you will need to order a ply wood crate that is suitable for a pallet truck with relevant heat treated certificate with removable sides.
Then create a customs document with correct tariff code for model tank, US tax on a shipment paid by receiver is normally around $40

Company I have used to ship
sales@expressandglobal.co.uk - you will not find a better price even with a covid charge around £600 tracked 3 day delivery around 120 - 150 kg AF DHL

You will need to take out an insurance policy to cover goods with a shipping broker to cover damage and total loss, around £40 covers 8k in my experience

Batteries will need removing

You may need to register to get the below - the last time I shipped October 2020 customs required it

Relatively straightforward, providing all documents are correct!

The hardest part is packing the model, I wrap the model with a clear packing cellophane to prevent parts moving around then pack really tight with lots of packaging.

The best option is to keep it in the collection.

If you're handy and can source materials its possible build the crate yourself and pack the tank. I start with a wooden crate and build a box to go on the crate. I prefer this over having someone else crate it, and saves several hundred quid. I usually build a small box for the tank to sit on to suspend the tracks. The barrel and other accessories can go in that box. Use inexpensive sheet Styrofoam to cushion it all around. Once ready have shipping company or UPS pick it up.

I think you'd want to remove the batteries, that is always a complication when shipping things, and will make the crate even heavier = $$$. If I sell a tank model I usually don't include batteries.

All good advice above.
A few points of clarity when shipping by air :

1. Sealed Lead Acid batteries with a dry construction - eg AGM (Absorbant Glass Matt) - can be shipped but you need to check with your shipper who will confirm with the airline. The batteries do need to be disconnected and properly secured - see point 4 below.
Details are found in Special Provision A67 of the IATA DG Regulations

2. The crate, if made from wood, needs to be ISPM15 compliant and needs to be stamped as such. Companies that provide crating services normally have their own stamp that they will put on the crate.

3. Shipping - especially by sea, can have unexpected charges. Always ensure that you are quoted door to door and it is clear who is providing brokerage services.

4. When crating, even if you have a box with skids for a forklift, you should assume that the crate may be placed in any orientation when being transported. The model should be secured within the crate accordingly - i.e it should be able to survive being transported upside down for a few days.

I think in light of all this that this is a heck of a lot of work and stress that i can do without right now.

I do think that this info will prove useful in the long run for others but not for me.

Hi,

I recently used Pack and Send (chain in London) to ship a built Morris Quad, Limber and a few other items. They packaged it up in nice wooden crates and shipped it to the USA (from London) for me. Took less than 10 days from drop off in london to arriving in Miami, USA.

Total cost with insurance was about 1800 pounds. They use DHL for shipping.

The import duty I had to pay in the US was $44. (forty four dollars - not missing any zeros ). I was surprised that there was any duty at all. Amount was super small, so no complaints.

I am very happy with the experience.
