2025 ARMORTEK KIT SURVEY
Over the last few years we have brought out a whole series of kits as a direct result of your feedback - kits like the Pershing, JagdPanther, Hetzer, Leopard 2A4, and more recently the Sd Kfz 7, 88mm Flak 36 and the upcoming Challenger 2.
So, in keeping with what has become and annual tradition, here is your opportunity to once again influence our future production plans.
We have added in some "guide pricing" next to the names of the models. This is a rough estimate of the price at the current rates.
Thanks in advance for your input and we look forward to the results.

Rivets
Newbie here so beware!!
I have a UC and the rivet sizes are 5mm and 1.6mm.
Why 1.6mm which is 3/64 inches I think so why one metric and the other imperial.
Can't find a riveter for 1.6mm and is 5mm really 4.8mm
Yours confused

Re: Rivets
Hi Bob
1.6mm is 1/16 of an inch and the other rivets are 2.5mm which is near enough 3/32 of an inch to the best of my memory
rivet snaps for those sizes should be near enough.
Rivets are measured by the shaft size not the head size I hope this helps.
Regards
Derek

Re: Rivets
Hanson Rivets ( kudos to my pal Ray G) has a dazzling array of rivets, squeezer dies and all manner of rivet paraphernalia. I just ordered
both squeezers and longer 3/32 rivets for my M3 work. If possible I prefer to mechanically bind the rivets not glue..

Hi Guys
Rivet tool arrived and it’s not long enough to be gripped by the tool by a long way.
These are the 5mm rivets in the UC.
Am I meant to is a rivet gun or do a bash them in like Rosie Rivet did?
Thanks

Re: Rivets
Hi Bob
I am looking at my instructions for the universal Carrier and there are NO 5mm rivets.
So I do not understand your postings about 5mm rivets.
The list states 1.6mm rivets 10 off and 2.5mm rivets 210 off .
What tool have you received ? Can you post a picture?
Regards
Derek

Re: Rivets
Hi Bob
The tool you have is for pop rivets (as used in aircraft manufacturing) not for the copper rivets you have in the kit.
You need rivet snaps and a hammer if you wish to rivet rather than glue the copper rivets in the Carrier model.
Rivet snaps are available from EKP , Polly Model engineering supplies , Blackgates and many others best to talk to them
as finding the ones to fit the metric heads of the supplied rivets took some time when I bought mine for the Famo the 1.6 was easy
as its 1/16th of an inch but the 2.5 was hard to find as it doesnt match exactly I got a near english equivelent one from Polly.
Cant remember the exact size now though.
Regards
Derek

Re: Rivets
Thank you so much Derek.
Why are some rivets in metric (5mm) and others in imperial 1.64mm.
All the best

Re: Rivets
All the rivets that we use are imperial sized, but for convenience we round to metric sizes as everything else that we do is metric.
we use 4 rivet sizes:
1/32" = 0.78 mm which we then round to 1mm
1/16" = 1.59 mm which we then round to 1.6mm
5/64" = 1.98 mm which we then round to 2mm
3/32" = 2.38 mm which we then round to 2.5mm
We do not have any 5mm rivets. On the packaging photographed, the "2" did not print correctly.
As Derek mentioned, if you want to buy a tool to help peen the rivets then you need a rivet snap and a ball peen (pein) hammer

Re: Rivets
Dear Armortek
Many thanks for the information which I now understand but if one is in the UK or the USA it just leads
to a search for tooling that doesn't exist for certain measurements.
In my humble opinion as a rank newbie isn't it better to give the exact measurement and units.
Why are rivet sizes still in imperial or is this just UK.
thanks
Bob

Re: Rivets
In the cycle trade you need to be polymetric, imperial measurements are embedded and are not going away soon. Just look at tyre sizes and wheel sizes to keep you amused! The best thing is to give both imperial and metric measurements I feel.
After all 1/6 scale is an imperial fraction, 304.8 mm to 1.8288 meters. Now that mixing of units was deliberate as I have had someone in the shop getting very upset about the French using centimeters! When scaling I always measure in both imperial and metric so see what works out best for division by six.

Re: Rivets
Hi Bob
Just checked my rivet snaps for the larger rivets and the ones I have are 3/32" and
1/16th for the small size I got mine from Polly Model engineering in the UK and they were about £7.50 each.
I must admit it took a bit of head scratching to fine the right one for the large size as I mentioned before.
I wonder if Armotek could keep a stock of these as spare parts as so many kits seem to have tons of rivets nowadays.

Hi Derek
Now I know they are imperial it was easy to find the appropriate tooling.
Can't wait to start riveting!

Chronos Engineering Supplies may also be a good source. I have ordered the set of Eight to cover more eventualities: https://www.chronos.ltd.uk/product/set- ... naps-snst/
