I am looking a buying my first armortek tank and can’t make up my mind between the Jagdtiger and the Elefant
I am building the Pak 43/41 so looking to tow it with one of these tanks to save carrying
Would any of the members give me any feed back please on the tanks

Elephant, future classic

Hi,

Hard choice to make - both models are extremely good if you had a king tiger already then I would say go for an elephant

I like the wide tracks of a jagdtiger in comparison to the elephant but I also find the elephant extremely interesting

Simple really buy both, but if not possible go for the jagdtiger.

Of size really do you know the size with the barrel took off by any chance

On the assumption that the hull is similar to the King Tiger, it should be around four feet long with the barrel removed.

I would go for the one you like the look of the best and not make the decision purely on size - the elephant is a large model

What sort of Pulling power do the tanks have

They probably wont pull out stumps but they'll put a UPS delivery van on solid ground.

There are various videos on YouTube of sledges and cars being pulled.

There's a video on here somewhere of one pulling a vintage Rolls Royce in the Armortek factory.

No pulling power whats so ever! You would be better off with a flash car

Are the tanks ok on concrete and tarmac does it wear the track a lot or would you only use the tank on grass and mud

Fine on hard or soft surfaces. Only surface they don't like is gravel, which can break tracks if it becomes wedged between the tracks and running gear.

These are impressive models in their own right but another way of making your decision is to get online and do some research. See what the real vehicles were like, look at their operational history, short though that was in both cases, get inspired by them as scale models.

And love the history about them how do you transport yours I am looking at getting ramps to get in and out the car we have a Vauxhall Zafira so the space is no problem
I am building the Pak 43/41 at the miniute it’s just trying to workout which one to get to have with the pak towing behind I know probably not true to history but saves me carrying it

I take a different approach when advising people as to which model tank to buy.

Warning: I'm hard nosed about it.

Either you have an interest in AFVs overall and a specific vehicle or you don't. No one should be able to tell you
what to buy as you should already know. I personally like everything from the earliest days of tank development
up to the early 1950s.

If it's reliability you are concerned about this website should set those concerns aside. Model tanks aren't meant
to be 'thrashed' across all manner of rough terrain. Tanks have limits to where they can operate. Ignore that and
pay the price with broken parts- the same is true in any scale and type. Look at historical accounts as to where tanks operated
and look for similar terrain 'in scale' and you would be fine operating there. Keep in mind tank crews had (and have) a vested interest
in managing where they operate: in the field their lives can depend on it and even so they don't pay for broken parts- you do.

So read. Study. Explore. Buying such a thing is an emotional experience. Make your own decision. Go with what you like.

Yes I've been in this hobby a very long time, since the mid 1970s. I have over 100 tanks and vehicles; I don't mean 1/35 scale either!
