Primers and painting

Hello all.
Primers and painting. Is there a concise entry within the forum which describes best practices with regards to priming and painting?
By painting I don't mean applying camouflage, just the base or primary finish color.
I understand there are personal preferences regarding etching primers whether for aluminium or steel parts.
I understand that most builders prime parts after trial fitting.
From past experience (sorry 1/10 and mostly gas/glow powered, cast aluminium hulls) I never paint the interior of a model tank where the
mechanics areas grease, oil and paint often turn into a gooey mess. I'm open to revising my approach if someone gives a good reason why
I should paint the inner lower hull.
I was planning to use two part epoxy paint for the finish coat, KlassKote. They are willing to make up any color if not in their catalog
and prices are reasonable, products durable.
Thoughts? Comments?
