Andrew Devey (the author of two books on the operational and technical history of the Jagdtiger which proved very useful when researching the tank), reached out to us a few days ago to say that he had created a series of coloured images of the Jagdtiger and asked if we wanted to share them. Of course we were more than happy to do so, and our thanks to Andrew for this opportunity.

Below is some of the background from Andrew, followed by scanned copies of his works:
I had already trained as a mining surveyor between 1974 and 1978 and so I was already proficient in technical drawing. For the artwork I was measuring from photographs and plotting in pencil and you will see this on a Tiger 1 picture that I deliberately never finished. I taught myself to paint almost by accident as I was on strike at the time during the 1984-85 miners' strike. At that time, I was still a coal face worker and finishing my studies towards becoming a chartered mining engineer. My first go at painting was in the early summer of 1984 when I painted the view of Jagdtiger 332.

I had started work on the Jagdtiger research in 1980 when I was planning the 1/12 scale model build. I was measuring the Jagdtiger and Tiger II in Bovington and slowly contacting and visiting other archives. David Fletcher was a big help at Bovington but I also had assistance from Per Sonnervik (I gave him the tiger II in Hungary painting), Karlheinz Munch (I gave him the Ferdinand and recovery vehicle painting, Wolfgang Schneider (I gave him the Sturm Tiger picture) and Uwe Feist he was given the completed Tiger I picture. The images were always intended to illustrate the Jagdtiger work that was eventually published in 1999.

.......

As a foot note, I saved all my old correspondence from Per Sonnervik as we exchanged our ideas about our model building in the 1980's and some from Walter Scherf and Otto Carius the Jagdtiger Batallion and Company commanders and so possibly another story line for later?

Keep up the excellent work and I wish Armortek every success.

Those are stunning....

Is he interested in a commission? I have one in mind that will go with my 25 PDR, that is going to a museum in the UK as soon as we can travel again...

Beautiful work!

Cheers,

RPR
