Does anyone have information regarding what is the length of the recoil stroke for various tanks? In other words, how far does the barrel move when the gun is fired?
I would like to know this primarily for the Tiger I and sherman; however, it would be interesting what that would be for other tanks as well.

Hi James and Stefan,
since my interest is very limited and concentrated to the Tiger I the information for the recoil I used to build my gun came from the "Prelaminary report No. 19" of the Military college of sience in November 1943. On page 4 the "maximum normal working recoil of 580 mm" is mentioned. This works out to 96,7 mm in my tank. Other tanks I do not know. Sorry.
And sorry Robin it took a while to find the precise figure. However, you now can check your recoil system and doing mods if requested.
Best regards - Roland

As you can see thanks again to Roland, the correct length of the barrel when fully extended is 392mm.
Another of Rolands measurements is the length of the armoured barrel protruding from the ball, which should be 53mm. Many thanks again Roland for your input. ROBIN.

Roland and Robin,
Thank you both for your input. This is precisely the information I was looking for.
Anyone know the stroke length for the Sherman, Panther, King Tiger?
