The RAF No 1 Armoured Car Company badge that Phil Woollard has posted for me I found in a file in the archive at work. Its discovery just after Christmas was fortunate timing for me as I have asked Phil W to commission build my Rolls Royce Armoured Car kit which I want finished in RAF Desert Yellow. Hopefully Phil will be able to start the Rolls as soon as his current Chieftain build is complete.

So I'm guessing that will be a 1924 pattern ? There are significant differences between that and the 1914 kit ..... it'll be interesting to see how it turns out !

Chris, Can you recommend any reference material for the 1924 model? What are the main differences?

I’ve started digging ! The first thing I found is that the RAF probably never used the 1924 pattern
. They would have started with ex-WW1 1914 patterns, which would have been very quickly upgraded with new chassis (known as Type A). The main type, however, would have been the 1920 pattern, so you’ve got Bovington’s as a template.
As a start, you can’t go wrong with the Haynes Guide and the Osprey, both written by David Fletcher. I’ll have a think about others and get back to you.
As for differences, for starters: solid wheels, headlamp mounts, re-positioned vision ports and, for the RAF, a Lewis gun fixed on an AA mount on the rear of the turret. And RAF roundels, of course

I forgot to mention that the kit is available from AMMO MIG it's the same company who do the weathering magazine.

And they have an RR license for that? I wonder?
Thanks... I'll stick with one from my favorite builder. We are well capable of scratchbuilding interiors! That's half the fun.

PS. I do like Warslug's Renault. But right now, for obvious reasons, I have a bit of a 'thing' about ordering anything from China. I'll have my lovely British-made products before I'll buy from Warslug's home turf. To put things in a politically-correct manner.

It's called "The British Armoured Car", so of course nothing whatsoever to do with any two-lettered British marques.
Oh, and it's a 1/35th plastic model, not 1/6th metal.

Ah... there has been a decent 1/32nd kit out for a long time with 'some' interior.
Hasegawa, perhaps?
I thought it was from the 1/6th maker in China.

Sorry guys i should have said it was a 1/35th scale kit.
The link i put on did not show the whole page just the top photo as i have just seen.
I through it would be of help for the RR builders to bild the interior detail.

As said above, the RAF in Iraq used the 1920 Pattern, so you can forget the 1924 ones. The Bovington A/C is a good model to follow (this particular car forms a large part of the Haynes Guide, with plenty of internal detail shots). But for the RAF you need to fit a spotlight and Lewis gun on the turret, as well as a signal flag rack.
And, in addition to the changes I listed earlier, you're going to have to make new front wings - the 1920 Pattern were much more rounded and 'normal car' like.
Plenty of research to do !
