Michael Rinaldi ("Tank Art") has produced twelve useful guides to weathering techniques, based on Facebook conversations, which are free .pdf downloads on his website:

Although Rinaldi works at 1/35th scale, he has some techniques which are perfect for our scale. He uses oils and pigments in a very simple but effective style, which isn't overdone, like a lot of tank weathering. My Centurion was done using a lot of his principles.
Well worth a look, and they're free.
