I am in the process of finalising the wiring in my 2017 Tiger 1. I am inserting a battery isolator between the batteries and the motion control module. Just in case I need to make new cables from the batteries, what size electric cable should I use?

The original cable seems to look similar to the 2.5mm multi-strand cable as used in domestic ring circuits. Is this OK? I think it is rated at 20A at 220VAC.

Anywhere which takes the full power of the model, I use 12awg (4mm sq 41A) Pro Power tri-rated cabled, so for the new kits, that would be between the battery and the Motion Control Module.

From the MCM to the motors, I use 14awg (2.5mm sq 30A) Pro Power tri-rated cable.

Problems normally occur at the connections, as this is where unwanted additional resistance can be introduced, which can lead to heat build up.

If I'm making wiring changes, I make sure I use the correct awg sized crimp terminals, and I use a professional ratchet crimp tool to ensure the connections are made properly.

I will see if I can get the 4mm cable here. I also have the correct crimps and the ratchet tool so I'm in business. I haven't checked yet but I might not need to get a new cable as I have an impression that the kit cables were quite long.

Just checked with the local ironmongery and they have the 4mm electric cable but not in red or black. I will find an auto electrician and see if they have it in red and black.

The kit supplied cables are just long enough for my purpose but if possible I would like not to cut them up as yet. I think I will leave them as a last resort.

Choc-blocks are fine as long as you
1) use good quality
2) do not exceed current rating
3) tighten screws tightly

Overheating damage on the photo indicates one connection was slightly loose.

Avoid using Scotch Locks if at all possible, and if you have to use them, consider them as a get-you-home repair to be replaced by a proper repair ASAFP.
