New low profile animatronic bases

They say "necessity is the mother of invention". When John, my customer from the States, told me that he had minimal space for figures due to a recoil unit that filled the turret I started to think about just how much I could take out of my bases.

I started by chopping the overall base height virtually in half, then after staring at my screen over a cup of tea, it dawned on me that the lower base could be incorporated into the new cupola mounting cage reducing the height further! He had even less space on the Commander's side, so I made a thin mount that allowed the figure to lean either by a servo in the mount or in John's case the figure's arm pushing and pulling on the cupola ring.

So now I have a choice of figure mounts available depending on the functions you require and space available. I have also added a control card box to keep everything neat and tidy.

The next thing to play with is a gyro so the figures will tilt back and forth automatically as your tank undulates over rough ground. :)

If anyone's is going to the model show at Bovington mid-February I may see you there, looking to drop down for a look around with the wife. :)

Sym.

A quick video of John's figures before adding the binos, gun etc. As can be seen the new bases are very low, and in the case of the Commander on the right only protrude around 1" into the turret.

My wife has come down with a nasty virus so after a long conversation we've decided to cancel our trip to Bovington this weekend. I'm upset not to be going but she comes first, even though she kept insisting it was OK.

I just wish we'd decided this yesterday as free cancellation ended on the room last night! :(
