222 rebuild

I purchased a 222 year or so ago that was in need of some major restoration.
After a few weeks of disassembly, paint stripping, sanding and general defect rectification I have now got a chassis in fairly good order. I will be putting this to one side and carrying on with other projects but I am pleased with the results so far.
I should have taken some photos before I started but completely forgot.

Here's the chassis awaiting work on the upper hull.

The 222 is a nice kit and I think a reissue by Armortek would sell well.

If anyone has any spare 222 parts they would like to be relived of please let me know, I particularly need a full set of hinges for the doors and access panels plus the boxes for the rear mudguards.

A little update on the 222 rebuild.

The brake mechanism has been added to both chassis sides, a bit fiddly but well worth doing as it’s quite visible.

Left side view showing the storage fitted, access doors are now fitted with some detailing of the inner sides. The locking mechanism works but will not normally be used as I am using magnets to keep the doors closed.

The right side showing the access door closed. Of note are the workable vision flaps, these came from Mark Lawson and add a nice visual improvement. Again these are held open using small magnets.

Most of the hull details are ready to attach so hopefully progress will be quite quick from this point on.
The turret will need a full rebuild so that part may take some time.

You have done lot of very nice work to the 222, the ability to open and close the drivers visors gives a lot of depth to the model The turret will take a lot of time and work to complete but will be worth it in the end.

I have applied a initial coat of paint to give me a feel for how it’s going to look when completed, lots of weathering required I think.

Looks ok but needs weathering

The other side, the spare wheel adds a bit of a contrasting colour.

Quite pleased with the results so far but a Simon Manning Weathering master class Is required.

Amazing transformation steve, are those doors the ones I cut out that were missing as they do look good! I think I want one in my collection.

It looks good with no weathering, I think you would need the hair spray technique to do it justice.

Glad you like it, yes they are the doors you cut so saved me some work there.
I think the 222 should be in everyone’s collection, nice size and plenty of detail.
You never know it may be re-released in the future.
