Out of interest, what grade aluminium are Armorteks models made from? Additionally which grade is considered best for machining quality/strength etc? And anyone have a supplier they recommend?
Cheers!

Hi Simon

We use a mix of Alunimium grades as follows

Rounds for turning are generally 2011 which is a free machining grade, but cannot be welded.
Sawn billets, for large parts, and laser cut plates are 5083. A good general machining grade.
If all else fails and we have no other option we use 6082. It is supposed to be a good all round grade, but it can be
pain to machine and can have a lot of internal stress. Unfortunately almost all tube is only available in this grade,
which why gun barrels appear not to be as well finished as some other parts.

Best Uk suppliers are Aalco, Rightons and Smiths metal centres.
