Hi Guys
Just putting my hopfully final assembly togther and I have a question regarding the gear boxes on the tanks.
How much grease in the gear boxes do you use ?
Just a coating on the teeth or pack out the whole box?

Hi Derek,
Like Robin, I just applied generous amounts to both gears.

Hello Derek
On both the Sherman and late Tiger I fitted a filler and drain plug, sealed the joints and filled the gear cases about 1/4 full with oil. The Tiger hasn't done a lot yet but the Sherman has done well on it. (No leaks either.)
Probably over the top but seemed a good idea at the time.

I agree with the others, I just give both large driving grear and pinion gear on motors a generous coat of grease.
Although for ultimate cool factor the oil bath that David Ward made is just like the original vehicles. I'm surprised they don't leak! Silicone seals all.
I also coat the shaft the taper lock goes on with a coat of grease as well. I think this will prevent the steel taper locks from rusting or siezing on the shaft.
