Thought Id post some good news for those not forunate enough to be able to visit Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
They have been doing god stuff up there, not a lot but something is better than nothing.

Thank you so much for the excellent photos. What is the American machine just before the Ferdinand? My mother worked at Aberdeen as a co-op in the 40's. I think it will be my next destination ahead of Fort Knox.

The Ferdinand is an Elephant, Captured at Anzio.The only one left in the world. The one in Russia they said is really a Ferdinand.
I wish they would get to work on the Jagtiger and at least one of the Panthers.

I was refering to the german tank with the ace of spades that Carlos mentioned in the second part of his post it is not a PZ III but a Pz IV

And how fast things can change, the Pz IV F2 left yesterday for Fort Knox. I went to APG today to get some pictures for a Marder III M I am working on and noticed the F2 was missing. Looks like it put up a fight by the looks of the ground.

Thanks for the great photos! Good to see they are using psudo authentic colors for a change. Beats letting them completely rust away. I agree the Panthers are in sad shape and need at least a coat of paint.

The Fer-dee-nand actually looks pretty darn good in those colors!

Glad we never adopted the T-6 into service! Lots of flat side plates that scream "Target"

Hi Roland,

Thanks for explaining about the M6 and for setting me straight on the Elefant. My back to the books exercise indicates that after Operation Zitadelle (Kursk) the Ferdinand was modified with a hull MG (primarily) and renamed.
Thank you Derek for the correction on the PzKpfw IV. I previously thought the difference between the III and the IV was an evolution from the short barreled 75mm L24 to the long L48 and the late model Schürzen and Zimmermit. Oh well. My education continues.
You're right Robert, the M6 was a dog. It's still a shame to see the last surviving variant out there exposed, without his tracks.

Thats not good, Ft Knox is stealing our tanks. I wouldnt mind but its a long ride from here to there.

I also noticed General Pershings car was no longer inside. Wonder where it went to.

Found out more on the Pz IV, it was traded to the Patton Museum for a Dodge maintenance truck. It will have a cosmetic restoration and then be displayed inside the museum.

Could you imagine that going down the freeway between here and there. Must have been quite a treat for those drivers who knew what it was and had never been to APG or Ft Knox.
