POLL: What transmitter/ Receiver do you use

Trying to gather some information on what Transmitter systems are used with Armortek kits. We generally recommend FUTABA and Spektrum, but that is only because we have tested with these two.

So use the reply button to let us know what you use and whether you have had any issues with other models/ makes.

Spektrum DX7s & DX9
Both work great with a decent stop dead failsafe.
Can also use the Benedini rotary encoders to select your sounds.

Cheers
Tim

Futaba 7C. Poor quality of manufacture and impenetrable instructions. Keep changing their waveforms. No telemetry mode. Using on Pz III for now. Being replaced by:

Spectrum DX 7 (and I have a DX8 for the next one). Better quality, easy to programme, good variety of ancillaries such as telemetry.

There is a new system by FrSky, the TARANIS 9D, which looks to have a very high spec at a good price. It looks very attractive, offering a stack of useful and flexible programming options and extensions.

In summary, out with Futaba, in with Spectrum for now but looking at the next, cheaper, more flexible generation.

Spektrum DX8 and DX9. Look for Gen2 as they have antenna diversity as standard. Much more flexible programming than Futaba, as most channels can be programmed to most switches, and all channels are multi-position, not just on and off.

Receiver wise I have standardised on AR9020 for all models, so that the wiring and allocations can stay the same, even if only using a 8 channel transmitter.

Have used Futaba 6EX and 7C in the past and had no trouble with them. Have hacked a 6EX to make it eight channel; which was fun, but fairly pointless.

I moved to Spektrum due to their open source telemetry system, where you can build and program your own sensors.

From work I have done for other people, Graupner is a very popular brand over the Channel but not here yet.

Haven't bothered with ultra fast transmission speeds as it makes no difference to our models.

Adrian.

I use the Graupner MX-24 which is the 12 channel transmitter. Its a great product and I am happy with it.

Futaba 7C for my Mark IV, which works fine bearing in mind it's a 2-stick drive system with very little need for switches and no turret ! If I ever got anything more complex I might 'go with the flow' and try Spektrum.

My Panther uses a Futaba T8J with a 4QD system. People have told me it shouldn't work, but it does ! (Steve Norris is a clever chap ).

I am now using Spektrum DX8s, which work well with multiple models. Especially having replaced the Bind Plug with an accessible Bind Switch.

Rough count so far ..
6 Spektrums
3 Futabas
1 Grauper

Most popular seems to be tied between DX7, DX8 and DX9.

Not exactly a scientific study as some people have multiple transmitters, but hopefully we get more responses from across the globe to see what people are using.

Graupner MC 32 for all my models (4 tanks, about 35 planes.....). Excellent system with great possibilities for telemetry control!

Currently Futaba 7c, but have Spektrum DX9 awaiting installation.

One observation about Graupner’s commercial position. The former German company Graupner GmbH was made bankrupt in 2012 and the trading name Graupner was acquired by a South Korean company SJ Inc. SJ are a radio manufacturer who developed the proprietary HoTT waveform for Graupner. When the latter failed, SJ were left with a product and no European sales organisation. It was a logical move to acquire the name and sales and distribution assets of Graupner but dispose of the R&D and manufacturing capability. In other words, the Graupner of former times is no more.

Graupner GmbH were able to command a premium price based on a reputation for quality dating from the 1930s. The new company Graupner/SJ Inc, compares with the other Asian radio suppliers and their prices, service support and product development judged accordingly.
