Glen, it’s impossible to tell on a screen. You really need to compare a swatch with an original colour chip but since not many have the latter, not easy. Don’t confuse the Flames of War Colours if War paints with original colours, they don’t pretend their colours are accurate. That said, colours fade and vary according to source and there is a view that precise matching is a fool’s errand. Depends on what you want.

This is a good reference as background:

This photo shows the main base colour used, 4BO which translates general base number 4. The colour in this photo was properly researched and is accurate.

What to use? 4BO certainly had a yellowish hue. The FS standard equivalent is FS34102. If you dial that up in apps such as iModelkit which has a clever colour equivalence engine, you come up with the best match being:

Humbrol 241 RLM 70 Schwartzgrun, a Luftwaffe colour.

The Tamiya spray can range doesn’t have a good match.

So maybe you end up with Falmes of Whatsit after all. You could try getting a good reference, such as the photo above and see if you can get it matched by a domestic paint or car paint supplier.

Regards.

Stephen
