i hope this is of interest to the Sherman fans out there,
in the late 1970s approx 40 used shermans from the Portuguese army were delivered to Southampton docks, some were sold and others were for sale on the dockside, prices i don't know.
the photo's were taken by a friend i know who had purchased one, with a bit of work he had it running and went on to restore the tank, thats the new looking one on top of porchester hill overlooking portsmouth.
the photo's have never been published before and it was news to me he had a tank in a previous life, and a sherman BARV, that he paid for and drove out of a scrapyard, the yard had been using it to shunt vehicles around,
there are plenty more pictures, to many to post here,
what became of the purchased sherman?,, reenactment, private owner's, museums he thinks, nearly 40 years ago now, regards simon.

Just to be pedantic, they're the Canadian version of the M4A1, called the Grizzly. Slightly different hull casting and "Canadian Dry Pin" tracks with 17 tooth sprockets, rather than the 13 teeth on a Sherman sprocket.

Probably explains why a lot of the "Sherman" tanks in the UK are Grizzlys. There's one outside the D-Day museum at Southsea. I don't know if it came from this batch though.
