Sherman tracks

Post by duncanallender »

After fitting new pins, blocks etc to my old Sherman,Have got 78 tracks per side.Tried 79 as easier to join the track up, but far too sloppy.Still a bit sloppy despite track tensioner adjusted. If I go down to 77, seems an impossible task to stretch them over, despite using cable ties to bring 2 ends together.Any ideas as to how to get them joined up.
Also how many do you guys use. Looked on some Sherman sites, they say they used 78 or 79.
Thanks Dunc

When I was running the BARV in Normandy, it had 77 on one side and 78 on the other.

The tracks do run very tight - so they twang when running.

I seem to recall the recommended method was to fit the tracks quite tight, then compress the suspension ( by weighing down the tank ) whilst adjusting the idlers to get the final tension.

Thanks, Adrian.
I'll try 77 on each side and use the method you recommend.
Cheers,
Duncan
