Hello to all KingTiger builders,

I had the chance to buy the base parts of a Porsche Turret from the last "Clean Out" at Armortek

The challenge is either to re-build or to find anywhere on the Forum all the missing parts to complete this real great Turret

I had a start and made some base parts for the air-vent, small rear hatch, close defense weapon and most work allready all around the inner contour side-walls.
I decided to go for a three piece concept and used 0,5mm alu-sheets to get a base.

Yesterday i bought than the 12,00mm material for the final version of the side walls and had a start today

Question to the all:

Who has maybe some Parts left for the Porsche Turret ??
Looking especially for the Loaders Hatch and the Gun Elevation Motor !

For the Porsche turret you should use the late Tiger I loader’s hatch this comes from Armourpax

A bit of progress on my "Porsche"

I could finish the front and rear sections of the side walls over the past few weeks...
Allways on the road I feel that it will take ages to rebuild the turret

Unbelievable how fast you can mess up a workshop while working with that thick aluminium material
But good to know that my new Proxxon saw is able to make the 12,00mm plates, pretty nice !

Attached some pics of the work and progress so far. Next challenge will be to realize the curved centre sections...

Looks like you are making good progress with the turret

Would you recommend the Proxxon saw for metalwork ?

I have the Proxxon chop saw, which works well, but the band saw wanders away from the cutting line however slow I take the cuts, even with the blade guide nearly touching the material

Uwe I am not sure if you know?? The Porsche Tiger is not just a swap with the turret, there are also changes on the rear deck and I firmly beleive on the front deck, too. Dont make the mistake mostly been done just change the Turret. May be try to find one of Tamiya`s 1:16 KT with Porsche turret for reference.

Hello Adrian,

the Proxxon FET has a bit flimsy guides for the Material. Just some minor forces and it misaligned

I did some changes on hat weak points and it worked out pretty well afterwards.

1.) the left yellow guide is original fixed only by one screw on the rods. I added at the front rod a M4 Grub-Screw to have a second fix at any desired position.

2.) the front guide has got a 6mm " Passscheibe " to eliminate the freeplay

So with some minor "upgrades" to be done I would recommend the FET, Yes

one by one - the Detail Research on some minor diffs will come later on. References so far are my Pics from the both Variants in Bovington, the Trumpeter Book and Spielberger.
First I'll be happy when I can manage to get the turret complete together

Great work Uwe, I'm enjoying seeing what you're doing.

Adrian, I've used the Proxxon bandsaw a lot recently and you're right, it does shy away from the cutting line but it does so consistently. I find that if I rotate the workpiece clockwise by about two or three degrees, I can get a fine cut straight down the line. I don't use the Proxxon guide but steer the work manually. It's a bit of kit I now wouldn't do without.

Thanks Uwe for the explanation and pictures of your mods. It seems a shame to have to make alterations to a brand new saw but it is good to hear they are worthwhile.

Stephen, good to hear it's not user error Having seen what is coming together for your Cent, I'll have to persevere and just learn how to work around its waywardness

finally some progress made on my "Porsche".

Various attempts to build the centre sections of solid material have failed.
It simply needs such a big press I couldn't get to my hands, so finally I made the centre sections like a sandwich out of 0,8mm Alu sheets.
That size is no issue to work with my "Mangel" , and worked out pretty nice for me.
The inner fill-up has been done by Alu Putty so the "Sandwich" is pretty rigid and robust again

A very important step ahead where I'm pretty happy with
Now I will look for the remaining parts missing to get my Porsche any day complete

Bit of small progress on my Porsche re-animation Project

Not much but I could make some missing parts for the turret.

Thx to Dave I have now the appropriate Loaders Hatch as well

The Cupola is growing as well. Welded the MG Ring and modified the Covers .

On the Cupola side wall I added the small hatch. Does anybody know what was the use of that ??
Maybe a pistol port ??

Most of the critical items are "on board" now except the big protection ring underneath the turret With an outer Diameter of 390 mm it is far out of my workshop possibilities so I need to look how to fix that issue

Just in case anybody has two Armortek periscope covers left, I would be happy to buy them

Wow, time is running.
Allways too much other things to be handled and less time for the hobby

Slowly I get my "Porsche" together with getting all the missing parts made or organized
One of the biggest challenges was the armored ring to protect the inner rotating gear, pfeeew.
Got it realized with a lot of efforts now and I'm really happy with the result.
I'm not sure but think this item was never part of the Porsche Turret KIT.
It looks much closer to the original now, and I can sleep now well again

Also on the turret I got meanwhile the missing elevation parts, cupola periscope covers and all the little things on board. Gill and Mark have been again of great help to dig in the "archives" to find some bits and pieces for me.

The front deck received its recess as the original has. I could make this pretty good on my FET Proxxon Saw again
Made also a trial to "hide" one of the additional sattelite receivers of my Spektrum radio in one of the front periscopes. No clue but hope it will improve the radio behavior later on.

The next steps are the "endless cables and connections" to be done and the programming of the radio system.... Did I mention that I've been on steam the last decades ?

Another "massive" progress on the Project ,

got all the missing bits and pieces to build the missing wiring loom for the turret.

A bit of crimping and soldering along with Slade and a nice cold Reissdorf

Thanks to Gill and Mark I have now also the elevation-motor and bracket so I'm on the best way...
