Lewis gun barrels

Whilst my female sponsons are off being machined, I thought I would have a look at the Lewis gun barrels.
After a few false starts, I've arrived at a couple of programs which I feel capture the shape of the barrel better than the supplied ones.
The picture above gives a comparison between the Dragon plastic barrel, my new aluminium one and the Armortek supplied steel barrel. I intend to add the clamps for the cooling jacket and the sight on the top.
This is the barrel in one of the female sponson mantlets.
I will machine up a plug to fit inside the end to hold the LED centrally, as per the muzzle on the original MG.
Adrian.

Hi Adrian,
Nice looking barrel. It is those details that makes the tanks stand out.
Cheers

Nice work. I've just seen it on Facebook too

. Good to see that all the barrels are comparable in size. The key difference is the banding, which I'll have a go at in due course (me being a 'have-a-go' bodger, without access to, or knowledge of, all the wonderful machinery that exists out there

).
All the best,
Chris
(really appreciating all the dedicated Mark IV research going on)

Hi Adrian,
Very smart idea.
I started to fit the first gun with a few parts build in brass e.g. the gas regulator, but found that the sizes are difficult to catch despite the lots of work. Your solution is way more realistic than my trial.
The diameter of the radiator casing seems to be 86 mm. So the 1/6 DID model of the gun shows good proportions with diameter of 14,3 mm.

Oliver

I've ordered up a few meters of aluminium stock and have decided to offer these at £8 per barrel.
A Male tank will be £24 for a set of three and a Female will be £40 for a set of five.
Plus P&P, and Paypal fees if appropriate.
I am happy to bring them to SAG events at Bovington, or other shows which I attend, to save on postage.
I haven't had time to look into adding the sights, so the barrels will be supplied without, as in the picture above.
Please contact me via the email address below for ordering information.
Adrian.

For those waiting for these Lewis gun barrels, I'm afraid the cold weather has damaged the MICC mains supply cable to my workshop, so I'm awaiting a price to have the supply repaired/replaced

Sorry to hear of your travails. Is there anything good about winter to us tank builders ? I've been holding off on
Flaming Fire II because it's too cold to paint ....
I'd be interested in 2 x Female sets and 1 x Male sets for my flock of Mark IV's. But there's certainly no hurry ... hoped-for delivery at TankFest in June ?
All the best,
Chris

Adrian,
What a pity!
Winter shows his gim face.
Hope the damage will be solved smoothly in warmer temperatures.

Oliver

I received confirmation yesterday that the electrician will be here on Friday, to replace the whole length of the faulty cable, so I should have everything powered up again at the weekend
