2003 track pin fasteners

Hello,
After not much driving about 10 fasteners have come off. Any tips to make them last longer?
Some of them got twisted/bashed when I put them on, could that be the problem?
My son/helper/pester pants wants to add something:
Thanks
Sam

I have a tool that I was given when I acquired my Tiger that allows them to be fitted in a fairly easy manner. Plus I have made a gadget to retain the track pin in position while they are being driven on. Photos to follow!

If you are using the original star washers they won't do their job if they are distorted or damaged. If you search the forum Paul Morris shows you how to make a tool to fit them without damage. Later versions of the pins were retained with split pins through holes at the end of the pin. Might be worthwhile upgrading? (Edit or wait for Steve's piccies)

Thanks,
I'm afraid I didn't manage to find a matching post by Paul Morris.
I'll try and come up with something to ease them on.
Strangely it looks like it was just the track that was loose that lost fasteners. So maybe with a bit more care it will be OK.
Thanks
Sam

I think the tool Peter is talking about is this one.
If you can afford it I would contact Gill and ask to buy the new pins and split pins. I found the old ones would last as long as you didn't slue the tracks a lot, after that they came out.
Paul.

- Tiger Track Pin Tools
Here is the photo.
Resting against the track links is the punch which is a piece of steel, the end of which is drilled into and turned down to take a copper sleeve that projects a couple of millimetres to hold the Self Retaining Fastener in position prior to hammering onto the Track Pin.
Located on to the track is my own tool for holding the Track Pin in place so it resists the force of the hammer. It is simple and light weight, ideal for field repairs!

I would contact Gill and get some of the new style pins with split pins and washers.
Dennis.

Thanks all,
I think we are going to try and finish it before starting the first round of upgrades
Three generations of us are off to see the 131 (and other things) next week so sure to give us lots of ideas.
Cheers
Sam
