Sound card problem

Hi Chaps,
I have just refitted a sound card which Thomas has reprogrammed for me.On power up it only makes one clunk sound instead of usual three. No sounds appear to come from the card when I put it in teach mode.I have it set up for the encoder.
Any ideas?
Chris

TBS5 or TBS Mini ?

On the Mini, you need to follow these instructions from the manual. You really need the model off the ground so that it can be run without moving.

3.1.2. Teaching the sound unit for encoder control

1) Power transmitter and receiver. LED blinks fast -> normal mode
Bring all joysticks to neutral position. Model must not move.

2) Press the TEACH. button until one beep occurs -> LED cont. lit.
At this moment all neutral / idle positions are stored.

3) Move throttle stick to your desired acceleration point (throttle stick position where engine idle sound changes to moving sound) and push the button of the encoder.
-> A short sequence of acceleration is played

4) Move throttle stick to full speed and push the encoder button again
A short sequence of full speed is played.

5) Bring the encoder rotary switch to its first position and push the encoder button
-> Engine start/stop is stored to this position
Hint: The rotary switch has no mechanical limits. You can define any position as the
“first” one.

6) Bring the encoder rotary switch to the next position, wait about 2s and push the
encoder button again.
-> Reeving up the engine is stored to this position

7) Repeat step 6 until all 12 rotary switch positions are stored

8) After teaching all positions the sound unit beeps 3x and is back in normal operation mode.

I've always found programming the Mini to be quite hit and miss, especially with the throttle position programming, and usually end up doing it several times until I'm happy with the throttle points.

Adrian.

Tbs5
I programmed it for the encoder before .I can't think what could be wrong now :?

Does it flash three times when you press the programming button on the TBS ?

Do you have all the connections from the receiver connected to the TBS - not just the sound control one ?

Have you checked the receiver with a servo to ensure the encoder is working as expected ?

Adrian.

Adrian,
Yes to all three of your questions

Stumped :(

One clunk at start-up is correct for encoder mode - three is for toggle switch mode.

Probably best to get back in touch with Thomas.

Work overran severely today so I didn't get chance to make up your second lead. I've nothing booked for Thursday so should be able to get it done then.

Whilst the Mini Sound Card has many advantages the draw back is that it must be pre-programmed for use with either a switch or the Rotary Encoder. This change is not possible, unlike the other sound card, to be done easily by the end user. If you are upgrading to a Mini make sure that you specify the method you are using on your Transmitter to control the card.
I am saying this from experience, luckily it was for the Mark IV and I had help from Adrian and Mark (Senior members of the 'How to Team' to resolve my un-anticipated issue!)
I, along with Denny? acknowledge that we are expert members of the problem generating team, vital for entertaining the grey cells of the HTT's

I think we are getting a bit confused here, if it is a Mini then to change to encoder method of control you need to press the button on the mini whilst powering up the Mini. On releasing the button then you press the button once and you should hear a beep code. You then press the button repeatedly until you get 3 beeps. Then power off, it is then set for encoder control. Then you can teach it for various sounds.

If it is a TBS5 then that is a different matter.

Dennis.

Bloody sorted it! :D
On the tbs there is a six prong connection with the amp module. As I pushed it in I must have missed the top row of two prongs.I had to push it in at a bit of an angle to avoid sticking on the Velcro too soon.
I now have sounds! 8)
I will try and post the turret crew going through their drills and firing the ranging gun ....Just need to recharge batteries ...the Cents and mine
Thank you everybody for your help once again
