I’m looking for some flat brass sized 15 x 10mm about 400mm long, anyone know where I can get some, it’s readily available in Germany but the postage for some strange reason is extremely high

For brass, I use MACC Models who may have what you need:

https://maccmodels.co.uk/materials-meta ... 21-12.html

Or, Metals 4 U:

Final option might be:

http://www.mkmetals.co.uk/

I've used all of them with success.

For completeness, I've also used Aluminium Warehouse for Ally. They're very good at cutting sizes to order:

Normal health warning - I'm not endorsing any of them and "there are other suppliers out there".

All the best.

Stephen

I have found another supplier of metals cut to size, namely Rapid Metals, http://www.rapidmetals.co.uk/. They are based in Coventry and Redditch and offer a helpful and friendly outlook.

My local supplier has 16 x 10 mm on his list of available brass bar sizes. Usually sells in 3 metre lenghts but often has offcuts. I AM BASED IN IRELAND THOUGH. I can check to see what he has and cost. Can also check postage. Do you need a single length or can it be cut. This might affect postage.

John, thanks for the offer however I have already bought some from Milton Keynes Metals the bar arrived the following day the problem is that I couldn’t find metric size and had to buy Imperial 5/8 x 3/8 which is 9.5 x 16mm not quite what I wanted but I can work with it.

A personal bugbear of mine is when you think you're buying metric and get sent the closest imperial size. 5/8" for 16mm is quite a standard substitution.

If it was oversize you could remove material but if it's undersized you're stuffed.

Adrian.

I imagine what my supplier has, if measured is probably 9.5 mm also since other dimension is also 16mm.

Hi Gents

Brass bar is almost entirely still imperial. What little metric bar is available is offered at a premium price. Most ally squares and flats etc are similar. If you are offered metric, it will almost always be the nearest imperial size, which can often be little smaller.
