Pictures of a Panzer 111

Post by Nigel Allen »

I had a trip to Bovey on Friday and took a number of Photos of the Panzer 111. I have shown a few below but have a lot more of the details of the tank. I can post other pictures if anyone wants key parts of the tank, just let me know. Due to the them having a major rebuild at bovey the Panzer 111 was right next to the Tiger 1 with very little room to get a good side picture of the tank. As a point of interest the staff were taking pictures of the inside of the Tiger 1 for a 360 view, not sure if this is for the web site or getting ready for the new building.

Nigel,

Have these tanks been moved recently, I thought that the Tiger had a good display area of its own so one could wak easily around it but it now looks as if its stuck in a parking lot.

Allan,
The Tiger and Panzer 111 have been moved to the Tamiya hall along with the restaurant and yes it does look like a car park for tanks. The staff were telling me the new outdoor area for running the tanks is just about finished but the new building is not due to be ready until June 2009.I think the new building is all about getting differenr types of Joe Public in the doors, they told me that the av person returns to Duxford every 3 years but at Bovey its about 15 plus years. So more for the kids and wifes, a bit like me, I can spend the whole day at the museum but my wife gets feedup after looking at the third tank,'' they all look the same but in differenrt colours''. So what ever they do is find by me as long as it keeps the doors open to the best collection of tanks in the world.

Nigel,

I agree on two points, its the best collection of tanks, (not sure about the whole world but certainly our corner of it) and the wife gets fed up having seen two tanks!!

Duxford has more variety with the different halls and both aircraft and military vehicles. I would also postulate that there is generally more people interested in aircraft. Also Bovey is a bit out in the sticks, my opinion anyway. Still I am all for expanding the variety of exibits and really need to make the effort to go there again.

Hi Nigel,

Thank you for posting the pics. Eventhough, I was hoping for an all metal Panzer IV, influenced by Tamiya dio pics from my younger days :( ... But after seeing your pics, I am glad I ordered mine just an hour ago.
Peace and take care
