Hi all,

In preparation for my first build,a fair bit of internet trawling has gone on. The results so far are linked below.

Hello Ian,

that's a great idea and for sure quite helpful :!:

Along to your Youtube video I've found the related walkaround on PrimePortal with high resolution pictures.

Hi Ian

That's some cracking close up photos and will be a great help seeing how it all fits together.
Cheers for that.

Bryan.

The first item of the build is under way, the Wheels.
Here's a few tips which might help, from the aviation trades.
I have found it easy to dry fit the hub and rims to check/true up the through holes for the bolts by "pinning" them together with 2.5 mm nails (I'm using 7 x 14 cable clips),rather like Sheet Metal/Skin Pins, because at this stage the wheels may need to come apart for painting or fettling a few times, so the bolts are impractical right now.

Firstly a dab of WD40 on the mating parts, then align the rims with the hub using the nails. The nails should fit straight away, any that don't may require a bit of fettling with a clearance drill. By having most of the 16 holes pinned, then through drilling only the tight ones individually, there is much less chance of misalignment.

To tap the pieces together/apart I have a set of tools, mostly drifts and chisel shaped things, made from TUFNOL, which is hard enough for the job but softer than ally..

Hi all

Just a wee tip on this build, before you try and slide the cradle onto the slide through make sure you grind the screw's down (M3X6 CSK) as it just won't go without force, I tried and had to retreat !!

Regards

Bryan.

Yea had that problem a took me a while to sort it. Have another problem though. On trying to mount the barrel group to the cradle there does not seem to be enough room for it to sit the pivot mount to the seating on the cradle. Once the elev gear marries to the pinnion the I'm still finding the pivot mounts will not sit in the correct way any ideas guys :D

Spent a few hours sorting out the pictures I took of the PAK 43/41 at The Tank Museum, and sending them to Gary Jensen in Denver, Colorado. He plans to host them for us on that side of the pond.

I have also had a go at the settings on my Flickr account, and set them to open access. Could some one out there please test it for me.

I'd like to use it as an image library for the PAK 43/41 so we can all have it as an open reference resource. If anyone know how best to do it, please let me know, I'm not good with computers.

Ian.

When I click on the link it asks me to log-in to my Yahoo account but as I don't have a Yahoo account I can't check to see if I can access the photos.

I prefer Photobucket myself as anyone can view your photos without having to log-in.

Yeh, odd that. The guy I'm building it for called me a bit earlier and told me as much, yet the link I e-mailed to him as a test DID work ???? (Not me Chief, I'm Engines).

However, I have sent then to Denver, where Gary Jensen, who seems to know how to do this kind of stuff, will host them, somehow, over there.

OK then, if Gill has steered me right this should be the first of many.

Having the photos posted here in the forum is probably the best place, but if you want to quickly download a zip file with all of these pictures in it, you can go to:
oraclesc.com:8000
and download the file:
ianpak.zip

Thanks to Ian for all of his work.

Cheers,

Gary

Glad to be of help to everyone, especially those who cannot, due to their location, get a good look at the Bovington gun......I've got about 120 :o
