Hi does anybody know where I can purchase metal chain that will fit into the bogie lift mechanism wheel on the bogie units?

Have a look at Cornwall model boats ltd. There web site carrys a large selection of chain of different chain sizes. The web site is organised by manufactures so it can be a bit of a search, or short cut to Biling boats. Good hunting
