I know there are quite a few fans of the Proxxon tool range here, so I'm looking for advice on the KGS80.
I was using it to cut some aluminium angle yesterday and couldn't find a cutting method which didn't turn the detached piece into a projectile. Appropriate as I'm making parts for a tank but disconcerting nevertheless
I'm wondering if some foam along the back of the baseplate may act as a back stop and absorb their energy.
The other annoyance is that the saw blade teeth seem to catch the part as it disconnects, causing gouges of varying sizes. I would be interested to know if anyone has this saw and whether the resin blade would be better than the toothed blade
I'll only be using it to cut brass and aluminium.
Adrian.

Re: Proxxon Chop Saw (KGS80)
Adrian, I'm very much a fan of Proxxon kit. I can't help you directly as I use the MBS 240E Micro Bandsaw, which works brilliantly with the 24 tpi blade. I do also use the Long Necked Grinder with a Corundum disk and that is very powerful. Looking at the KGS80, it comes with some very large toothed blades so I wonder whether your solution is to try the corundum disks that are available for it, or find a fine tooted blade from another manufacturer (I believe Axminster have some other options.
All the best
Stephen

Re: Proxxon Chop Saw (KGS80)
Thanks Stephen. I'm going to need a bigger workshop
I know you mentioned the band saw in your builds, but I thought the chop saw might be more robust for cutting bar stock for the lathe, so went with that instead.
I've ordered a resin disk from Amazon to try, so hopefully Prime will get it to me before the Easter break
Adrian.

Re: Proxxon Chop Saw (KGS80)
When using a chop saw or circular saw to cut aluminum, I use a carbide tipped blade
and install it backwards this way you're not taking such a big bite from the teeth.
You also don't want to be heavy handed, let the blade do the work. Been doing this
for years. Yes, a band saw works best. For my friends that don't have the shop I have
I have taught them safe ways to do things with what they have. AL

Re: Proxxon Chop Saw (KGS80)
Hi Adrian,
I'm working with the KGS80 as well for a long time now. Some hints are
- the KGS is very sensitive to feed ! Slow feed torwards the cut through is mandatory
- good experience with the 36 tooth hard metal blade on thicker material
- for thiner profiles I use the 63,0 mm HSS blades from Knupfer (80 teeth), suitable for Proxxon.
- I try to grab very small parts with a long "Pinzette"
This Thursday I'll be on the Intermodellbau in Dortmund and will have a look for some good blades as well. I'll let you know when I've found a good source
Greetings from Cologne,
Uwe
