Hello all,
I received an email from one of the auction houses I use, and it listed a grouping of medals and award certificates for a stug commander which I thought you might be interested in.
"GERMAN CROSS GROUPING TO THE COMMANDER OF STUG-GESCH.BRIG. 278
Major Johannes Stier was a highly decorated officer serving with several Sturmgeschütz units during WW2. He commanded 2./Sturm-Gesch.Abt.244 during the battle of Charkow and finally Sturm-Gesch.Brig.278 in 1943/44. Stier was awarded the German Cross in gold for bravery in June 1944.
Part of the grouping is his complete document grouping including his Wehrpaß. The grouping has just been sold to us by his son and was never in collectors hands. It includes his medals as well a fair amount of important period time Sturmgeschütz related documents. A very rare grouping."
He might worth researching for one of your Stugs or give you an idea for a unit to use!! The Auction site is http://www.ratisbons.com/ its a German site but its in English.
Paul.
