Ive been meaning to post this here for quite some time. First I could not find the photos, then I had a hard time converting them from paper to digital with any king of clarity.
This is a Stug 3 that that I was able to look at some years ago in Virginia.
This stug still wears the zimmerment that was applied in the factory in 1943. It almost just off the showroom floor.
The story here is that in 1943 this track was put on a railcar and sent to Russia.
It went out on a night patrol as the lead track with two others along the river 100 miles south of Stalingrad. They were ambushed the front left was hit by a grenade. The 2nd and 3rd vehicals backed out this one turned right onto the ice where he broke through and sank.

The crew got out and took the mg with them and left everything else behind.
When it was pulled from the river in 1995 it was loaded with 75 rounds for the gun, the engine contained oil and fuel. There were 78 klicks on the odometer.
The Russian Army sold this to the United Satates Army. Shortly after it left Virginia headed for Ft Knox

There is a video of the recovery, that has bee lost (I,m told) showing the Russian soldiers unloading ammo tossing it in a pile like it was firewood.

Hi Roland,
I really love those sorries! Like the T34/75 which was pulled out a lake by a gigant Kumatsu bulldozer. After 60 years they even mannaged to start the engine again!! Makes you wonder what is still out there hidden in the Russian mud.

Hi Roland,
Nice photos! Thanks for posting them.
But I think it is a StuG III not a IV.
Sincerely
Kent

You are correct Kent.

Wonder how I can edit the title.
Matt I know what you mean, when something like this happens it always stirs up dreans of treasure hunting. Weather is in Russia or the Pacific jungles.

Roland,
When you go back to your top posting and click the "edit" button, you should be able to change the title as well.

If I were to get one I would definately do the Stug variant as I think its a smart looking vehicle. I have the Bandai 1/15th scale Stug IV model which is very nice but I wouldn't trust it for accuracy as these kits were made in the 1960's - 70's when kit accuracy wasn't the most important thing. The Pnzer III hull opens possibilities for many different models.

Hi all,
Having a 1/6th rc T34-85, Panther , Hetzer, Late Tiger I and a Panzer IV Ausf H all more or less build the only model I possible might be interested in is a StugIIIG
Bear in mined the StuG was claimed to have some +40000 tank kills during WW2 and was beyond far the most successful tank killing weapon system during WW2
Some talk about Panzer IV being the workhorse in the German arsenal instead the StuG`s was the real backbone - cost effective and truly a spearhead weapon system successful until the very last ay of the war.
Hope to see a Stug III model on the market soon.

Hi Lee,
Ok, but it is off topic - however photos is always fun...
My Tiger is still untouched and nothing to post.
My Panther is only a bunch of parts and can be seen in my gallery.
This is my T34-85:

100% finished and ready to go.
This is my Hetzer:

Still a year of build before finished
And my recently arrived Panzer IV Ausf H:

Untouched and just waiting to be build.
As you can see I have at least 8 years of fun ahead of me...
Cheers
Kent
