Late Tiger 1 dead left track. Help please.

Hi all,
As I have said previously I am new to the 1/6th modelling game and recently became the proud owner of a late Tiger 1 from the 2007 batch. I have posted before regarding the steering on my tank and many thanks to all who answered my call for help. Well things have progressed, I now have no drive at all to the left track! Tried swopping wires over and the motor works via the right track control but absolutely nothing when I put it back. I can find no disconnected wires, all seems to be as it should be but its dead. It is an ex track. Everything else works, the sound is OK the turret turns, the gun goes up and down the right track is fine. Any ideas would be very gratefully received from anybody who has a clue what might be going on here.

Hi Kevin,
I've not seen a Tiger like yours but this is what I'd do if my Stug had the same issue.

I see several possible causes.
1) A faulty signal cable
2) A fault on the signal socket of the Amortek Module
3) The Remote Control or Receiver is faulty on the channel used for the left track.

Option 1) I'd swap the signal cables over between left and right motors. Note mine have three wires and be aware of the way the colour were orientated on the one that worked.

Option 2) You say the sound is working so if your Armortek modules are similar to mine it would mean the connections go as follows.
a) Cable from Receiver channel (say 2) to track input connection on Amplifier module
b) Cable from Amplifier module (Track Output) to Left Track on Drive Module

Its possible that the signal socket on the Amplifier module if faulty however you could bypass it by connecting directly to the Left Track input on the Drive Module, if that works then its the socket on the Amplifier module. However your tank would then drive but without the sound for that side. If still no joy then it could be the socket on the Drive Module.

Option 3) Swap the cables on the Receiver for the two driver motors, e.g. if left track is channel 2 and right track is channel 3 just swap those two cables at the receiver. If the Right track now doesn't work you have an issue with the remote Control\Receiver.

Kevin it is not clear whether you have the older 4QD speed controllers or the newer blue modules. If its the 4QD system you should hear a clicking sound on both controllers when you operate the tracks. If you dont then there is a problem with the wiring or the speed controller . Use a voltmeter to check the wiring to and form the relevant 4QD. Are both motors working? If you have been doing work on the wiring it is very easy to dislodge the connection underneath the motor or an internal connection to the 4QD,.PM sent . Regards Pete

Have you tried swapping the left motor cables to the right motor ? If you do this and the right motor does not run then you have a fault in the left side control, if the right motor does run then your left motor is either u/s or the power cables to it are disconnected.
Regards
Steve

He already tried that Steve.

Kevin,

In order to help you we need to know what type of modules you have got are they all Armortek or some other types ?

Dennis.

Hi all,
I have now found the fault with my Tiger. It involves a non Armortek smoker which has been fitted. By pass the smoker and off she went.
I would like to thank those who took the time and trouble to answer my call for help. It was great to get all the suggestions some of which helped me to find the problem.
Long live the Armortek forum.
Kevin.

Much as I feel the forum can solve most problems, I'm not sure any of us would have thought it would turn out to be the smoker  :!:

Glad you got it sorted :D

Adrian.
