Advice please

Hi, can any of you experienced guys out there tell me what is the best medium with which to create fake welds, I have been using Milliput, however it is not particularly "user friendly". Any alternatives would be much appreciated.

Funny I was doing welds on my Comet build today.
I have never used milliput as I find it hard to work and it is
not very sticky.
I use 2 main things the first being Gripfill in the green cartridge cut the
nozzel to the correct size and inject it along the line of the weld and then tool it with a wet
spatular or a small half round bit of plastic or metal.
I also use isopon P38 on flat surfaces run a couple of lengths of fine masking tape
along the line of the weld with a gap between the width you want your weld and then put the P38 along the line tool it to the give the look you want and remove the masking tape before the P38 dries

William, I find Milliput a complete pain because of the limited working time. I've a technique which sort of works but it still fights back. If you get any moisture between it and the metal, it's reluctant to stick but you need moisture on the outside to shape without the shaping tool sticking and liftiing it.

Now I think I've found something a lot better, temperature sensitive modelling clay. The stuff I've got is called Cx5 from Adam Beane Industries. It works as advertised, responds to heat in stages from solid to pliable to liquid and back as it cools. When liquid, you can use an extruder (eg syringe) to produce long strings ready for use in varying thicknesses. When ready to use, heat with a hair dryer or heat gun to soften, apply, keep it pliable with heat until the tooling is done and then allow to cool. That's the theory and I've done a couple of successful test runs but not yet applied it to my Cent. When I do,I'll post some pics.

I have no issues with Milliput. I use the Red one. Its very very important to use fresh ones so both parts are very soft. Just work mythodically. It will come together. For Zimmeritt just work one area at a time. Simples

I know some people will cringe, but I use 2-part,"JB Weld", for the weld seams. It's alot cheaper than Milliput. It is paintable. It is sandable. It fills nicely without shrinking. It does however, tend to need some re-shaping before drying, but has a generous dry-time. No need to rush with it. It also has the added advantage of providing 2500 psi. bonding strength to the seams; ideal for small detail-parts held on without screws, bolts or rivets. Also, it absolutely will not chip or peel, and dries rock solid. Maybe not for everyone in every situation, but food for thought.

Dave, have you tried JP Quick? It is made by the same company as JP Weld but sets and fills within 5 minute, but use small quantities for around two inches at a time. However, Milliput is great even when old just give it around 40 seconds in the microwave, this softens it like butter. But for weld lines JP Quick every time

Gooday Mate Just order 1 metre green stuff. It is a two part resin .It is called green stuff.Fantastic stuff look at welds on my tiger.Very cheep if you buy 1 m.

So chaps, I have ordered some green stuff, some JB weld took me a while, until I sussed out that there was no such thing as JP weld, and I will be warming my milliput.
Once again I thank you for your input, and I will have different mediums for different sized welds!!

William, it may be my error, sorry. JB Weld or JB Quick is available just google it and it can be found on EBay or Amazon for around £4.25. I use JB quick because it sets within 5 minutes where JB Weld sets around 9 hours

I did suss it out Robin, you would be surprised the garbage that came up on Google and eBay when I tried JP, anyway I have both varieties now.
