recoil electronics

I have all the electronics (motion/smoke/sound) installed and working but am struggling to decide where to locate the recoil control box etc. The short length of the connection to the servo and the need to connect the leads to the receiver seems to make locating the control box whilst enabling full turret rotation without pulling on the wiring hard to achieve.
Has anyone found a good solution??

Hi Martin.

You should be able to add a servo extension cable between the servo and the control box in order to increase the distance between the servo/turret and the control box. This also means you can disconnect the turret without having to open the control box.

I've fitted the box on the tank and used a plug and socket so it can be disconnected. See my thread in the Craftmans market.

Thanks to both. I have ordered a servo extension lead as a first step which seems like a good (and cheap!) solution.After the comparatively spacious interior of the King
Tiger I am enjoying the different challenge of fitting everything in the Centurion.

Hi Martin,

I appreciate that electrical installations may well be done differently by different builders even on the same models, but could you post an image of your installation as it stands to give me some sort of idea how it looks?

I have built my Centurion completely without the sound and motion packs and I am going to retro fit them in the coming months. I would love to see how things are going to need to progress and how I will need to get these things in through the available hatches.

Same goes for any Cent builders who have fitted their running gear.

Hi Mick,
I haven't attempted to post pics since the website was updated so don't hold your breath!If all else fails I will send some via private email. I have made no attempt to tidy up the wiring yet as being very much an "amateur" builder I prefer to concentrate on functionality first.

A first attempt to post pics!
Pic1 does not show first speaker fixed (velcro) on its side against the angle of the rear hull plate betwen the motors and beneath the power module shelf. Trying to get speakers roughly where the original engine would be.

pic2 shows smoke unit in relation to motors etc, 2nd speaker facing towards front of tank sitting upright. Will need to tidy wiring to ensure none touches the smoke unit!

pic 3 shows speed control, amplifier and auxiliary boxes + receiver. All velcro mounted. Auziliary box mounted on hull side using U shaped plastic profile to raise it beyond the protruding bolt heads in hull side. I intend to locate recoil box either on hull floor or on amplifier module.

Not a prety sight but it does appear to function as required!! I intend to put the recoil box either on the hull floor or on top of the amplifier box.

Hi Mick, I did put the motors in before finally gluing in place the rear hatch assembly partly because of the need to change some of the bogie cap head bolts which foul the motor as per Mark's instructions. All the rest was manageable via the rear hatches and without the deck in place.
I am sure there are better (and neater!) configurations, do post some pics when you have decided on yours.

G'day,

I've tucked my speakers down the front by screwing them together with a cut off m6 bolt and velcroing them to the glacis with a foam wedge underneath. A nice snug out of the way speaker setup.

Neat solution which certainly eases the space constraints under the hatches. I wanted to try to get the speakers as close as possible to where the engines would be but your solution will be considerably neater. I assume you have made all the fixings that need access from inide the glacis, I nearly forgot when mounting the batteries which would have been annoying!!

Seeing other builders' solutions is one of the things that makes "Armorteking" such an interesting hobby for me.
