Armortek 2005 sound system installation assistance needed

Post by John Grima »

Hello everyone. Several years ago I purchased a armortek sound system unit for the 04 early tiger I. The sound system is called "Option Pack 2 Sound Unit, Release 2 Date 23/08/05".

The tank doesn't have the blank system, or the smoke generator, Just option pack 1.

The other day I got around to installing the unit. I was following the directions but for some reason the system is not working, and I was wondering if anyone with the older tanks could help me out.

This is the system that I have

Image

The sound unit is connected the power box sound card subloom (as per the instructions) and the wire plugs that were inserted into the nylon plug match with the corresponding colors on the reverse side.

Image

Of the wires that were plugged into the sound card subloom are a white candy cane colored wire, a grey wire, and an orange wire.

Image

On the instructions and the schematic I need to tap into the signal wire which is on each of the channels that go to the main drive speed controller. Which I believe is the Blue wire.

Image

The candy cane wire is then intended to go into the receiver channel #6. It does not specify which of the three wires the candy cane wire is intended to plug into though?*the yellow jack is an extension wire which goes to channel #6 on the receiver.

Image

Finally included in the parts bag is an elecronize switcher. Both in the instructions and on the schematic it doesn't mention this devise at all for the purposes of the sound system, or am I missing something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. John

The three wires each go to the signal connection of a receiver channel, so the white lead on a Futaba style connection.

The "candy cane" lead will require a variable channel, which is what the old Futaba 6EXA transmitter provided on channel 6. It won't work with the Futaba 2.4GHz 6EX transmitter version, but I believe the 7C has a fifth variable channel you could use.

The way it works is, with the channel at 0, no sound is played, at about 10%, the engine start sound is played and then the engine idles. As the two track channels are increased, the engine note changes in sympathy. If you take the control channel up to 100%, the machine gun sound is played. There is no main gun sound. At least, not on the Sherman ones I have had.

The switch is one ones marked "Relay Switch Unit" and is nothing to do with the sound system.

Regards

Adrian

Thanks Adrian...that answers a lot of questions. On the radio the radio that this model uses is the old airtronics radio that came with the purchase of the armrotek kit.

Channel 6 is a toggle switch. Is there a way to replace the toggle switch with a potentiometer, or will I have to replace the radio and receiver with a new one all together?

Hi John.

It's highly unlikely that you can just swap the switch for a pot, but not impossible.

Use it as an excuse to get a 2.4GHz radio 8)
