Looking ahead to when i fit my futaba 2.4 ghz receiver into the centurion tank kit where is the best place to fit one of these receivers now that they come with the short antennas. Obviously with the tank being all metal i was wondering how the signal is affected. I am going to use a futaba 8J 2.4 ghz radio and the 2008 SB r/x that comes with it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Hi Neil.

Being inside an all metal doesn't seem to affect the receiver unduly, as long as the antennas don't short out on the hull. Don't forget that these systems are designed to work with aeroplanes operating at 10 to 20 times the distance from the transmitter as you are ever likely to get with a tank.

One thing I would mention is to find out whether the 8J is compatible with the Armortek electronic modules, as I believe Mark has found that the new 6J system is not.

Adrian.

Hi adrian, thanks for that, i will double check with mark on that. I fly model aircraft and have only just been converted to go onto the 24 ghz system as most of the club has gone over to it. I have several futaba sets on the 35 mhz frequency but wasn't sure if any tank users use that frequency. Using the tank away from anyone else is not a problem but at a show etc i thought the new 2.4 ghz set would be best, i will check with mark, if its no good then i can use it on one of my planes. Thanks again for the quick reply its much appreciated.

35MHz is for airborne models only in the UK.

Ground models should use 40MHz, or 2.4GHz of course.

Hi Neil

We have not tested the 8J, its quite a new radio. I believe, however, that Brian Rees was using one of these on his models at a recent show, without any issues. It looks a good piece of kit. Unlike the 6J, which is not compatible with our equipment.

Hi mark, i think i should be ok as the receiver has an option for either the new s-bus system or the older analogue system of connecting servos, the radio is a real improvement of the older futaba sets i have.
