Hi all,

what is the preferred method of bonding tyres to wheels? I have used rubber reinforced super glue for the small idler tyres and it seems to have worked well.

But the main tyres seem a little bigger than the wheel rims so there is a bit of a gap which cyano glue will not fill.

What type of glue would be best, oh and preferably not leave me permanently bonded to the wheel.

I am trying the liquid metal on some scrap rubber to see if it takes ok.

I've used Loctite 480 very successfully on my Comet Idlers and roadwheels and they're the same as the Cent roadwheels.

Mark recommends Loctite 410 which is similar.

I have used Araldite 24 hour on my Panzer and Comet and after a lot of hours running in arduous wet and dry conditions have not had any come off yet. If you look at the photo on the front page of this website running in the mud at War & Peace with the Panzer you'll see what I mean.

Hi all,

After faffing with superglue I settled on Araldite and came up with a strap clamp to cinch the tyres onto the wheels while it set up. I used the rapid Araldite so only needed two clamps, I set up a kind of production line; mixing, fitting, clamping and then cleaning up before the glue fully cured.

I also mounted each wheel in the lathe to roughen the surface prior to bonding and used a hand graver to "cut" a series of grooves on the outer surface to hold a little more epoxy. Might have been overkill but I feel the tyres will stay put now.

Good job you didn't use Superglue as it doesn't like water, just comes apart.
