Futaba 6ex 2.4ghz conversion

Hi all

After many months of being let down by my 2.4ghz 6ex for not having 5 proportional channels,I chose to reserect the old 40mhz model.I fitted the until now usless Benedini encoder module and with a big thanks to Lee Sellers got the wiring sorted out.All the sounds now work as they should, but its 40mhz not 2.4ghz!After forking out over 150 quid for a new TX back along I was determined to get it sorted out.Now for the mad but simple way to save yourself 250 quid plus on buying a 7 channel TX when you don't need to.THE 40GHZ TX MUST BE A 6EXAP WITH THE FLAP DIAL ON CHANNEL SIX AND THE THROTTLE CUT BUTTON ON THE FRONT. Only try this if slightly mad,not worried about warranties and handy with a soldering iron!!!!

1-Take the back off of both your 40mhz and 2.4ghz 6ex Tx,S
2-Locate the main board(larger of the two boards) on both
3-Label all wires with numbers from board and make a plan of positions for a guide.
4-Now de-solder both main boards, and put the 40mhz one into the 2.4ghz TX,re-solder wires as per plan and labels.
5-Re-locate encoder to the 2.4mhz TXAnd re-solder.

If all soldered in the correct positions you should have 5 proportional channels.Hope this helps,i'm chuffed to conkers with mine.

All the best.

Great minds think alike !

I've had the backs off my 40MHz and 2.4GHz units to check the compatibility of the control boards but I couldn't summon the courage to actually swap them over.

I did swap the pot from the 40MHz unit with the switch from the 2.4GHz one but it still just acted like an on-off switch, so there's obviously different firmware in the two units.

Glad you've pioneered this and proven it works - I'll certainly be doing a little Futaba surgery before the summer season. :D
