I am at the stage of my Tiger build and need expert advice from other builders on where to obtain larger base paint pots/cans rather than the very small model paints.

Hello Ken

I use Tamiya XF range of paint with an airbrush. Great results. There are some suppliers that will put any colour in a rattle can for you if you want. But the airbrush works for me.

My preferred colours are from Agama, unfortunately they come in very small bottles.
So, I'm applying a light to medium coat of Tamiya Dark Yellow TS-3 (rattle can),
then using the brand of my choice(Agama) to airbrush over the top. This way I don't go through as many little bottles.

You can maybe get a match at your local paint shop if you take in a chip for them to mix up.

I often used polyurethane paint for the base coat that is much stronger than tamiya paint (it is what iti is used for real cars), at local paint shops, but as I never found the exact RAL I always need to use model paint (normally xf60 for yellow) but it will need less paint to cover all.

"RAL" colors were not that pure, especially when applied in the field. The paints usually came in a paste form, and were thinned down and adulterated with anything and everything from water to gas, to other similar-colored paints when applied. More so, when paint supplies became harder to come by. Good reference here: "Panzer Colors", by Squadron/Signal Publications.
