Hi David,
I used to be in 23 Armoured Engineers back in the early 90's so will be watching your post carefully with great interest. We used to have two Cents in the regiment borrowed from 32 Arm Eng that we took to the Gulf War in 91.

Sorry David, our Cents were AVRE's not bridgelayers. All our bridgelayers were on the Chieftain chassis. I don't have any photos of the Cents but do have these poor one's of the Chieftains. The dark sky is due to the burning oil fields that we were passing through. The photo with me in it, is a Royal Scots Dragoons (i think?)Challenger Mk1.

Hi David,
Uber Project!
Do you envisage your model being able to "lay" the bridge by RC? If so, do you have view yet on what actuation mechanism you will use eg servo/pneumatic/hydraulic?
I have seen vids of working bridgelayer models over in Germany, but they were to a smaller scale (1/16th or 1/10th).
Do you have a feel for how much the finished bridge will weigh? Is it designed to take the launch vehicle?
Inspiring stuff!
cheers, Fabrice

Hi,
The plan is for it all to be done from the transmitter. Going by the weight of all the alloy i have brought to build the bridge it will have to be done by hydraulics. There would be no point do it if it was not useable.

If I remember correctly, the scissor bridges we used weighed approx 8 tons.
