Hello lads,

Have a look at my KT with Peter Quambusch's 8 ball bearing sets:


and a short film:


The noise heard is made by the ball bearing & turret bottom face, caused by scratched paint-powder gone into the ball bearing set. I should have stripped off the paint on the touched-circle.

To the uneducated, is the operation of the turret smoother with these ball bearings, are you happy with the result? Also, would it not be better to mount them upside down in the turret base, that way dirt and dust would in theory (at least) fall away from the bearings?

Thanks for the reply.

According the size and shape of the ball bearing set, I don't know if any skillful player can do as your way, but for me it will be more difficult to drill a hole underneath the turret base, with EXACT diameter and depth, to install the bearing set into it. it will be more like to fell down by the gravity, also with the same scratched-paint problem. Peter Quambusch is an expert on this thing, so I do the way he did.

BTW Bob, I have tried to update my User Control Panel to add a sentence under my name as you did. But always failed. How did you make it work successfully?

Aaah yes, and it would leave a line round the hull bellow the turret.

Hoydy Chang, Bob, and all the others interested in the ball bearings....

For one I have installed 12 pcs, compared to Chang´s 8 pcs. Weight wise you should not have any problems with the 8 pcs as each pcs can take up to 10 kgs. Due to the tolerances in the bearings, the turret underside and the deck plate (which might add up), so that the turret might sit on only 3 bearings. Thus I decided to install 12 pcs evenly spaced at 30 degrees.
I left the underside of the turret unpainted in order not to experience the “paint problem”….
In case you want to install the bearings “upside down”, I recommend installation at an early stage (when the turret is not yet assembled).
From a technical point of view, it makes no difference which way around they are installed, as long as they are fixed properly and evenly distributed.
