Is there anybody........ out there?

Post by Tim Bowman »

Hi everyone

This is a follow up to Gill’s post regarding new owner/builders posting on the forum. With 531 registered users on the form, it would be nice to see some more activity and builds posted here. It seems only half a dozen contribute on a regular basis. These are all excellent builds with inspirational work , start to finish. However, any new owners and their builds would be great to see. Fireflys, T34s, new Tiger 1s.... This isn’t meant as a complaint, more a call to all owners to help get the activity on the forum up. I need some entertainment. :)

This is always a place for good ideas, advice and solutions while building these kits and the more, the merrier.

So, in the famous words of Roger Waters…. Is there anybody out there?

happy tanking
Tim

Hi Tim

I think they are out there. I did a quick study of my posts, since January 2 I have put up 23 posts in the Craftsman's Market, 8644 hits, only 6 replies from members. That's an average of 375 hits per post. So people are reading, just not posting.

It maybe due to time or that the fantastic build post by yourself and the few others, that most members feel everything is covered and have nothing to contribute that can improve on what you guys have already done.

As you know it also takes a lot of time to prepare a post, taking pictures, photo-shopping them, writing a draft, uploading etc., some of my posts can take a couple of hours to do. Not everyone has this sort of time available.

I take satisfaction in the fact the members are reading my posts and the e-mails I get after they are posted.

I agree with you it would be nice to see more members taking a active part in the forum, I must have at least 300 customers with Armortek tanks on which my products have been used and I would like to see more pictures of these vehicles and how my products have been put to use.

To all members, you don't have to be a great craftsman to post your builds, just a picture or two of your finished pride and joy. This is a somewhat small hobby and the more members that are active can only help towards promoting the hobby. Just imagine if every member posted one picture, what that would do for the hobby as a whole.

Don't have time to do it. E-mail me a picture and I will post it for you.

Regards
Mike

I have been away for a month but back home now. Will start posting again soon.

Mike, my Tiger ammo arrived just in time. Picked it up from the post office today. Looks great. Looking forward to building the ammo storage beside the driver.

I will be restarting my King Tiger build post as soon as I have constructed a suitable stand for it. Like Mike said I have seen some fantastic builds by true experts. My ability is on the novice level and if I can just get it together correctly that will be a major achievement for me! *Peace*

I will start to post some pictures as the build of my T34-85 progresses. Right now I'am working on the front stretcher mod as seen on the T34 forum. I'am also trying to figure out how to construct the front/ rear tow hooks. Does anybody know of resources for dimensions, drawings of the details on our tanks? Some of these parts I would like to try and make and I am only able to look at pictures in the books that I have. I visit this website almost every day and I agree that it would be great if more owner/builders contributed.

Thanks,
William Lewis

Hi William
RE T34 Tow Hooks.
If you have a look in the T34 section and look at Dave Banes and
Brown Hawkins postings, you will see lots of pic's and sizes of the Tow Hooks.
Brown i think was also going to make them.

My Dad and I have ordered a Centurion and are waiting excitedly for delivery at the end of the year.
We will have a go at a build blog.
What I would like to see is more 'basic' builds with less machining, scratch building, etc. which is beyond my skills. I do enjoy seeing the super-detailers, I'd just like to see what can be done to improve a model in the simplest ways. :)

Hi paul and robin
dont be put off by some of the excelent and very detailed builds that you see on the forum , or feel that your build would not be good enough ,when i bought my first tank i felt much the same ,just remember who,s tank it is and build it how you want to and enjoy every minute of it ,that is all you need to remember . Please post your build but most of all have fun building it. regards to you both ,,,,,,,,,,,nick

Hi Phil

Thanks for quick reply. One question I have when you made yours did you just look at pictures and go from there or did you have some idea of the dimensions of the hooks, also did you use aluminum or brass? Maybe, Brown will update on if he plans on making hooks.
If not, I will give it a shot.

Thanks Again
William

OK Tim, I guess it's time for me to stop lurking in the shadows, and come out into the light!I'm a rookie, with a T34-76 kit trying to soak up all the fantastic info on the builds. They've been priceless, and crucial as I slowly progress. When I figure out the photo posting process, I'll add to the few 76 posts.

I too am in Northern California, and would love to check out some other folks' builds.

Could some one give me a quick run down on how to put photos on here and then I will put some on. I read a post about two years ago on this subject and if I remember rightly, I need to do this via photobucket or a similar site? I've just had an 18 month break from building due to other commitments, but now getting back into it and having fun again.

Hi guys

Thanks for all the replies on this post.

Mike-

"So people are reading, just not posting." Exactly! More posting please. :)

"members feel everything is covered and have nothing to contribute that can improve on" I understand what you are saying but if that was the case, I would have never posted anything after Vince Abbott's(and others) excellent work on the older forum.

Simon " i know some forum members have a wealth of knowledge but rarely post. i hope a little prompting will help" me too. :D

John- Great news. Can't wait to see more of your Tiger interior work!

Tom- I look forward to your King Tiger. Hope to start one of those too.

William- It's good to see the T34 section active. Even though it is not my preferred theater, I look at all the T34 builds all the time.

Dennis-I know people are out there but I was referring to builds and/or even comments. The forum has been an invaluable source for me over the years with inspiration and ideas on how to achieve something on a certain model. Everyone has different thoughts and solutions and it's always good to have more (At least in my opinion.) Your trailer project is awesome!

Robin- looking forward to seeing your's, and other's, Centurions.

Nick- Exactly. Well said. I felt the same when I started the Panther. It was my first model of this size and type. Enjoying the build is what it's all about(and running it around too). Everyone has their idea of what their model should look like. Just have fun.

Tom-Excellent. Maybe one day our tanks could meet on a battlefield. :)

Hi Lionel-Photobucket is easy and free. 1) create an account 2) upload photos from your computer 3) copy image code and paste in your post.

Thanks again for all the replies and thoughts. I'm working on some other projects at the moment but as I said, hope to start on the Tiger II at some point.

kind regards
Tim
