Hi fellas.

I have seen in the past 1/35 scale photo etched leaves. . . has anyone ever seen them in anything close to 1/6? had a very quick look on the net and came up blank.

Accurate, scale looking foliage. This is a difficult problem for everyone in the 1:6th world

I went through this exercise when I completed the Panther and will be doing something on the Panzer IV's final photo shoot involving foliage. For the Panther, I searched high and low and finally found a dwarf shrub at one of my local nurseries. The branches were good scale versions of a tree and the leaves were not offensively out of scale. At that time, I also looked into plant preservation and found several chemicals used in museums etc. I never followed through with trying any of the preservation techniques.

For the Panzer IV I will try something new. Results yet to be seen but I'll keep you posted.

Some guys use the leaf-shaped paper cutters(these are used in scrap-booking etc.) and they make their own leaves from paper or cloth material. Then paint them. This is most seen in 1:6 scale figure work. BAse detailing, helmet camouflage etc. Smaller scale.

Thanks for the info, I was hoping to find the photo etch so things would be a little more permanent . . . I wonder if the leaf cutters you mentioned would work on thin plasticard??

A "funny and crazy idea"... maybe BONSAI ???
In a good bonsai also leaves should be properly "scaled down"..

Mmmm could be a good idea Jan . . . but I don't even push the lawn mower round so starting with pot plants may be a step too far

Will try to send you some pics of my "olivastro"... it's a plant very similar to Olive plant, with really small leaves in bonsai art. But needs an italian/greek front configured tank (hard to see olives in the russland steppes)

Lee Sellars had some exellent 1/6 scale foliage on his panther , not shore
where he got it from.

there's a few things on eBay, check out item number 140577350989 these are die cutters, also check 380355815112 these are scale leaves but to small i think, and look at 170668035335 this is photo etch leaves on cards, not sure if this is any good, check the model railway stuff, that's what i used on my panther for branches/bushes etc, there's loads on eBay.

Sorry but a bit late coming to this thread. I saw an ad in Fine Scale Modeller or AFV mag last year from a guy in the Czech republic doing 1/35th laser-cut foliage and wooden shacks fences etc. Asked if he would consider 1/6th production run but got no reply.
Maybe if more people ask, he will would reconsider. Perhaps scanning stuff unto paper, printing it off and cutting out by hand would be cheaper...

I remember long time ago that there was a post on conserving plants or branches with little leaves. Something like boiling the stuff in gellatine or something similar. The guy who posted had done similar things to big trees for a museum. Hope someone remebers this post. Had a quick Google but didn't find a related article.

Thanks for all the help and advice much appreciated I bought some lengths of Foliage from Lee just waiting for the postie and I also bought one of the leaf cutters advertised on e bay so I will let you all know how I get on.
